Why do I love coffee so much? Lately I have been wondering what is it about coffee that makes the world crave it every morning. I see it as human gas, like the booster everyone needs to go out and do what needs to be done.
Is it that most people live miserable lives and they need their daily dosage of caffeine to make the unbearable more bearable? Are we really that unmotivated that we rely on our morning cup to finally find that tiny bit of motivation that pushes us forward?
Imagine a world without coffee. How would it be? What would people catch up for? Tea? Meh. I think that Coffee is our hot drink of choice because its effective, relatively cheap and socially accepted. Because if amphetamines were OTC and sold freely... I could imagine the office people nibbling on them nom nom nom.
In the Andes region (Bolivia, Peru, Argentina) people chew coca leaves for its stimulant effects. Reduces your appetite, gives you energy and keeps you sharp.
What is it with humans and uppers. Why do we need uppers so much? Are we all depressed? Do we make poor energy management? Is Netflix keeping us awake at night while we binge watch crappy shows making us regret it as soon as the alarm goes off in the morning? Might be. But the massive adoption to stimulant drinks/plants all around the world puzzles me.
Did God mess up and programmed us with less energy that we need? This guy...
In some countries of South America we drink Mate. An herb tea that will keep you up and even jittery if you drink too much.
Why? Why do we need it?. I like to analyze the social aspect of it. We do it because everyone else does it? Because a Flat White will look amazing on my Instagram? I think that in the last years Coffee´s popularity skyrocketed due to social media... but that´s just me and my nonesense.
Black, Espresso, Latte, Ristretto, Americano, Flat White, Mocaccino, Frappuccino, Lungo, Macchiato. You name it, I want it. Even instant coffee, its crap but does the job. See? Thats my point. I really like and appreciate good coffee, but if instant is all there is, I will have one. Will I love it? No. Will I enjoy it? Meh. But it will give me that energy boost needed to cope with a world that keeps pushing us down.
