"I want out," she said.
"Let's go out then," he replied.
—I dont know.
"Didn't you want to go out?" He replied somewhat confused.
"Yes, but I don't know," she replied.
—What is what you do not know?
"I don't know if I want to go out," she reiterated.
"But you just told me you want to go out!" He said, all upset, raising his voice a little bit without meaning to.
—Yes, but I do not know. And please don't yell at me. If I had known you would get like this I wouldn't have told you anything. I thought I could count on you. She said in protest.

He took a few deep breaths before answering.

—Of course you can count on me, darling. When you have it clear, tell me, I support you, whatever you decide.
"And you're not going to help me decide?" She replied with some surprise.
"I'd love to, but I really don't know how". He replied taking care of her intonation as much as possible,
"You do not understand me. Despite the time we've been together, you don't understand me. And if you don't understand me by now, I think you'll never understand me". She answered with a tone in which anger and sadness were mixed, intertwined like two snakes with bright eyes that looked at him accusingly.

He was silent trying to think of what to say. He felt like he was in a minefield where no matter where he moved, everything was going to explode, to fly into a thousand pieces.

She waited patiently for his answer, and in the meantime played with the strawberry candy lollipop on her lips.

The way she licked it expressed flirtation and impatience at the same time. And he knew that the next thing he said could mark the future of the relationship, at least in the short term. It could mean sleeping with that tongue, and the body it was part of, or sleeping with the dog, and his tongue, in the living room.

"Tell me why you don't know," he finally said.
—Well, I'm bored, and going out, distracting myself, would help me get rid of this feeling of boredom that I've had for a few days. But just thinking about getting ready gets me down. I have nothing to wear and...

He listened as she told him more or less the same thing in different ways. Limiting himself to nodding his head affirmatively from time to time, or saying "aha" or "of course" from time to time.

Meanwhile, he thought about his favorite football team's losing streak, mentally reviewing their stats, and how if they go out he'd have to watch a replay of today's game later. He was worried that they would go somewhere where the game was being broadcast and it would distract him.

That was when she said "...so we'll go shopping! I'm going to change my clothes, I won't be long".

He knew he had at least an hour before they left, so he called his friends letting them know he couldn't watch the game with them, and asking them to please not tell him anything about the result, or tag or text him for the rest of the day, since he would go out with her.

After enduring the teasing of his friends, he scheduled the game taping, made a reservation at their favorite restaurant, and changed to look good, but not too good. And as a final touch he put on her favorite lotion.

When she came out of the bathroom-dressing room, ready to leave, he was waiting for her with a huge smile on his lips. They went out, and despite what happened before, they had a beautiful evening. The relationship had survived another day, and tonight the dog would sleep alone, once again at ease, on the living room sofa.
