Some time ago, I had the opportunity to visit an exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Caracas called "PROBLEMS OF THE BODY." It focused on "neo-figuration" or "nouvelle figuration", immersing me in a world of provocative interpretations of the human body.
Neo-figuration, a movement that resurfaced in the mid-20th century, is characterized by a shared sensibility among artists who seek to explore the complexities of the human body in the context of post-war experiences.
What struck me most about this exhibition was how the artists managed to reinvent figurative representation. Distortion, disproportion, and anamorphosis became powerful tools, challenging both abstraction and modern realism.
Among the prominent artists featured in the exhibition are several internationally renowned figures such as Fernando Botero, Henry Moore, Francis Bacon, and Lucian Freud. Their works are displayed alongside those of Venezuelan artists like Pedro León Zapata, Diego Barboza, and Santiago Meneses Rodríguez.
Each piece in the carefully selected display invites reflection, either directly or indirectly, on how we perceive and represent the human body.

Nouvelle figuration
Hace un tiempo tuve la oportunidad de visitar una exposición en el museo de arte contemporáneo de Caracas , llamada "PROBLEMÁTICAS DEL CUERPO". centrada en la neofiguración o nouvelle figuration, que me sumergió en un mundo de interpretaciones provocativas del cuerpo humano.
La neofiguración, un movimiento que resurgió a mediados del siglo XX, caracterizada por una sensibilidad compartida entre los artistas que buscan explorar las complejidades del cuerpo humano en el contexto de la posguerra.
Lo que más me impactó de esta exposición fue cómo los artistas lograron reinventar la representación figurativa, La distorsión y la desproporción y la anamorfosis se convierten en herramientas poderosas, desafiando tanto la abstracción como el realismo moderno.
Entre los artistas destacados en la exposición se encuentran varios de renombre internacional como Fernando Botero, Henry Moore, Francis Bacon y Lucian Freud. Sus obras se exhiben junto a las de artistas venezolanos como Pedro León Zapata, Diego Barboza y Santiago Meneses Rodríguez.
Cada pieza del montaje, muy acertadamente escogidas, directa o indirectamente invitan a la reflexión sobre cómo percibimos y representamos el cuerpo humano.
