Hello all Hivians and good people of the Gems community. Most of us may not be aware of some major happenings or events around the globe that took place on this day many years ago. I will therefore take us round the globe in a giffey to have a look at some of those historical events that took place on this day, sunday the 14/10/2024 in history.

We begin today from Egypt. Do you know that on this day in 1994, the 82-year-old novelist and 1988 winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature Naguib Mahfouz was stabbed by Islamic militants in Cairo but survived.

From Egypt, we move over to Thailand. Do you also know that on this day in 1973, following massive public protests, Thailand's Prime Minister Thanom Kittikachorn was compelled to resign.

From Thailand, we move over to the world of Nobel Peace Prize. Now, on this day in 1964, Martin Luther King, Jr., a Baptist preacher and social activist, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of his contributions to civil rights and social justice.

From the world of Nobel Peace Prize, we move over to the events of WWII. Do you know that on this day in 1944, German Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, known as the "Desert Fox," committed suicide by taking poison after being discovered to be involved in an assassination plot against Adolf Hitler.

From the events if WWII, we move over to the world of music and entertainment. Now, on this day in 1978, Usher, an American musician known for his soft vocals and seductive songs and who rose to prominence as a rhythm-and-blues sensation in the late 1990s and early 2000s was born in Dallas, Texas, USA.

Gentlemen, we'll round off our today's look in history from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Do you know that on this day in 1930, Mobutu Sese Seko, the President of Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo) who took over power in a coup in 1965 and governed for 32 years before being deposed in a rebellion in 1997, was born in Lisala, Belgian Congo [now Democratic Republic of the Congo].

My good people, that will be all from me today. Let's do it again tomorrow.
