Finally, after years of social distancing and lockdowns, the cinemas are back! There have been surges in the cases in east and southeast Asian countries in the past months and I was afraid that the Philippines would follow. There were talks that the country would go on another lockdown after the May 9 national elections. But here we are, cases are still low, people can still go out, and yes! The cinemas are open!
I asked my girlfriend to watch Doctor Strange The Multiverse of Madness with me and although I knew she wasn't a big Marvel fan, she was down for it. It was also her first movie to watch in a cinema since the pandemic.
We grabbed dinner at a Vietnamese restaurant called Bahn Mi Kitchen since my girlfriend wanted to try it there. Of course, we ordered banh mi. Despite the Philippines being a Southeast Asian country, our food is quite different from our neighbors. For one, we don't normally use cilantro. I think this is the reason why the taste of the herb stands out when eating banh mi which can be a bit overpowering. Anyway, I still enjoyed the sandwich but I had to gobble it down because the movie was about to start.
We went inside the cinema and I had hoped we'd see some trailers but the movie started right away just as we sat down. I'm not going to spoil the movie to anyone who hasn't seen it but I think Scarlet Witch stole the movie from Doctor Strange. I wanted a grander final battle and I found myself not really invested with the new character (America Chavez) which might be because of how she was introduced. I enjoyed the cameos and seeing how powerful the Scarlet Witch really is. And yes, the zombie!
How about you? Have been to the cinema lately? Are you excited for the next Marvel movie (Thor Love and Thunder)?
P.S. I'm impressed by the new Liketu features (drag and drop, and photo editing)!
