Come di consueto oggi vi porto dentro una nuova Anteprima di un articolo che fra qualche giorno o settimana vedrete Nella Mente di un SerialFiller, il mio blog interamente incentrato sul mondo delle serie tv e di cui, da qualche mese, ho deciso di regalarvi costantemente, in anticipo su quello che pubblicherò, gran parte dei post che vedrete su www.serialfiller.org.
La "dormienza" di Christine viene risvegliata dall'amato Teddy, in un continuo ritorno del principe azzurro, senza macchia e senza paura, pronto a salvare la sua damigella in pericolo. Il ruolo che Charlotte aveva pensato per Christine era quello del burattinaio, un burattinaio che muoveva i fili ed i burattini secondo schemi a lei ignoti ma che derivavano dai suoi ricordi.

Dolores, a differenza di Charlotte, sa bene quali siano i limiti e le pulsioni degli uomini. A differenza di altri host, Dolores ha sviluppato una capacità di discernimento che l'ha resa cinica e spietata ma anche teneramente ancorata al genere umano. In lei è forte la consapevolezza che gli uomini sono capaci di grandi cose, siano esse positive che negative.
Se Maeve era il braccio, Dolores è sempre stata la mente della rivoluzione.
La Hale ha fatto sua quella ribellione per annichilire l'essere umano.
Maeve avrebbe voluto conviverci.
Dolores avrebbe, probabilmente, voluto addomesticarlo.
La linea soft di Maeve non avrebbe, con ogni probabilità, portato i suoi frutti.
Quella della Hale ha dovuto fare i conti con l'uomo nero.
L'intercessione di Bernard, il più umano tra gli umani ed il più macchina fra le macchine, ha fatto si che la Hale scorgesse all'orizzonte un piano B che sarebbe poi diventato l'ultimo piano possibile, il tentativo estremo che separerà il genere umano dalla definitiva estinzione, estinzione a cui William ambisce e che vorrebbe fosse propagata anche al Sublime.
Westworld non è mai stata una serie alla Station Eleven o alla Tales From The Loop, troppo intime e riflessive per essere accostate ad essa, ne una serie onirica e selvaggia come Raised By Wolves, o arzigogolata ed ambiziosa come Devs. La fantascienza di Westworld è unica perchè riesce ad essere muscolare ma anche fine, dialogata ma anche silenziosa, compassata ma anche roboante.
Non è esente da difetti Westworld, chiariamoci, e sicuramente non è rimasta al livello delle attese che la prima stagione aveva suscitato ne, tantomeno, è riuscita ad essere il fenomeno globale che era stata Game of Thrones. In molti la tacciano di girare intorno agli stessi temi, gli stessi quesiti, e forse è vero.

As usual, today I am bringing you inside a new Preview of an article that in a few days or weeks you will see In the Mind of a SerialFiller, my blog entirely focused on the world of TV series and of which, for the past few months, I have decided to give you constantly, in advance of what I will publish, most of the posts you will see at www.serialfiller.org.
If Caleb showed Hale the invincibility of the purest human spirit, the one that rhymes with fatherhood, with unconditional love, with stubbornness, tenacity, and heart, Dolores has always been the mirror of synthetic humanity, the one that was being built, bit by bit, and unknowingly, by sentient machines capable of developing their own individual consciousness.
The guerrilla Dolores we knew made way for Christine the "builder," narrator, once again unconscious, of the fable devised by Hale. The happy ending?
It could only be postponed.
Christine's "dormancy" is awakened by her beloved Teddy, in a continuous return of the spotless and fearless Prince Charming, ready to rescue his damsel in distress. The role Charlotte envisioned for Christine was that of the puppet master, a puppeteer who moved the strings and puppets according to patterns unknown to her but derived from her memories.

Dolores, unlike Charlotte, knows well what the limits and drives of men are. Unlike other hosts, Dolores has developed a capacity for discernment that has made her cynical and ruthless but also tenderly anchored in humankind. Strong in her is the realization that men are capable of great things, whether good or bad.
If Maeve was the arm, Dolores has always been the mind of the revolution.
Hale made that rebellion her own to annihilate the human being.
Maeve would have wanted to live with it.
Dolores would, probably, have wanted to tame it.
Maeve's soft line would not, in all likelihood, have borne fruit.
Hale's had to deal with the bogeyman.
What about Dolores's?
Could she have any better chance?
The prelude to the final confrontation between Charlotte and William is all in this sentence:
Make me stronger but Leave my face
It is a battle cry from Hale, a cry that can only come from those who, in spite of everything, have let violence command their actions and not balance, wisdom, goodness.
The intercession of Bernard, the most human of humans and the most machine of machines, caused Hale to glimpse on the horizon a Plan B that would later become the last possible plan, the extreme attempt that will separate humankind from ultimate extinction, an extinction to which William aspires and which he would like to see propagated to the Sublime as well.
Westworld has never been a series à la Station Eleven or Tales From The Loop, too intimate and reflective to be juxtaposed with it, nor a series as dreamlike and wild as Raised By Wolves, or as arty and ambitious as Devs. Westworld's science fiction is unique because it manages to be muscular but also fine, dialogic but also quiet, compassed but also bombastic.
Westworld is not without its flaws, let's be clear, and it certainly has not remained at the level of expectation that the first season raised nor, much less, has it managed to be the global phenomenon that Game of Thrones had been. Many blame it for revolving around the same themes, the same questions, and perhaps that is true.
The loop, however, is coming to an end.
The new world has already collapsed.
The world to come will restart from the dusty streets of Westworld and the blue dress of sweet Dolores, ready to become the new Goddess of Humanity.
Or to determine its ultimate demise.
