Not a great time for Emilia-Romagna

I was thinking about doing this post for a while and since we are on blockchain i hope this post will stay here as a reminder, because people, especially in my region hate talking about bad things and for this reason this events risk to being forgotten overtime.

Let's start from the beginning...

It was the 16th of may, there had been several rainy days before and even that night, around 9 P.M
the bad weather really didn't feel like stopping, it was a pretty weird situation but.. ok🤷,
and it was amazing how quickly things happened

around 11 P.M a friend of mine started writing that he wasn't very sure about the situation, he didn't really felt safe and exactly 12 minutes after that message he wrote this:

"everything that could be broken broke"

and well... this happened nearby his house in Faenza:

In the deep of the night the center of the city went 12 meters under the water.

...and the water started spreading across the region😅

San Pancrazio

San Pancrazio is a small city in the Countryside of Ravenna, there were literally fishes swimming around the houses, an almost surreal situation.

Ravenna- Commercial area

A lot of shops and local businesses in the main area went almost completely underwater.

In Ravenna some of my friend found their workplace flooded and actually felt grateful because even more serious damage had occurred in the other cities.

Faenza & Forlì

The areas most affected by the flooding remain Faenza and Forlì, being mainly flat areas it is difficult to remove the water and many neighboring areas still risk becoming a swamp.

A fish(?)🤢

And this happened nearby my house🙋‍♂️

Lugo & Bagnacavallo

No one was hurt too bad luckily... surely it had been a long time since such an extreme thing had happened in Lugo.

later the incident is broadcast on the news, 4 people were in the helicopter and only one was injured.

An underpass became a submarine passage, from the photo on the other side it can be seen
before the whole accident.

Also the fact that the water level rose slowly was very scary.

The train station😅

What happened next?

What happens after this sort of thing?
Basically everyone that has 2 arms and shovel goes out and start shoveling mud,
home appliances need to be moved and then start cleaning the floor and the streets.

The more time passes and the bigger the groups of people become also helped by volunteers arriving from other cities.

One of the worst things to clean was the dried mud from the floors of the houses, it seems to never run out sometimes

Even the younger ones lend a hand and it's nice to see so many members of a community helping each other.

And in the end things went back to normal in our area, in a few weeks things settled down also thanks to the help of people who came from all over italy to help.

Slowly things went back to normal and most of the cities around Emilia-Romagna get rid of the water and the mud completely, so we got an happy ending in a certain way😅.

There's more?

Definitely!

It was funny that at the beginning someone started blaming the climate change when the only cause is a lack of supervision and cleaning of the river banks.

Some people, having access to a global vision of the world, lose the more local one which is obviously the one that has the most effect on their daily lives,
for me is very important to have competence in both parts in order not to find yourself unprepared in moments like these.
Have both the ability to ask for help in the group and to communicate to a community.

so who is responsible for this situation?
after various fake news including the opening of the Ridracoli dam
it was concluded that the cause is 50% of the large amount of rain that has poured and the other 50% of those responsible for land management.

And that's all, many things have happened, some negative and some positive but basically I hope it doesn't happen again and I hope that those who represent us just wake up,
Italian families really don't deserve to end up under water🤷‍♂️.
