Okcoin Axie Contest: First Axie Art Contest I Tried (Hoping not the last)

FAILURE is not the OPPOSITE of SUCCESS
It's PART of SUCCESS

Buzzup people! I just wanna share to you guys my lovely entry on the very First Axie Art Contest that I joined in. Obviously, the emphasized quote above is basically a head start on what the result is(that I lost my first contest :<).

Well, one morning on 30th of September, while scrolling on twitter, I stumbled upon a tweet of Okcoin about an axie art contest that has been posted on September 29.

Ever since then, I was really wanting to join an axie art contest and try my shot competing with others so I told myself why not join this one as my first contest. And then when I looked at another tweet of them, it says that the deadline was 09/30/21 11:59pm pt (pacific time). I became hesitant of course because it'll be a 3pm deadline here in our country. That only gives me about 4 hours to conceptualize and draw. But then again I told myself it should be now or never coz I know myself that if I let this slide, it would be hard for me to encounter another good contest like this. Besides, a 4 hour time frame is a pretty challenging task which I really like. Challenges.

So I sat on a chair, shutting down my internet connection to lessen distraction, and started drawing. It was pretty smooth actually because I already had so many ideas with an axie design especially with my anime inclination. The only thing I considered the most is how to incorporate okcoin with my design.

Inspirations

The body is as it is of a normal fury axie. The color palette I used is basically variations from the color in the pfp of their twitter

The mask was inspired from the iconic Anbu group in the anime Naruto. They are pretty well known in the anime space because they are deemed to be the strongest in the village working on the dark side of peace they're aiming.

The back is inspired by Enel of One Piece. His character design is pretty slick especially the tomoe drums at his back. I thought it would be pretty convenient because I can put the Okcoin logo in it.

The horn and the tail on the other hand is purely on me. I just find the horn so perfectly fit for the mask while the coin as a tail has no explanation at all. It just fit. OK-coin.

Result of the Contest

I was actually so confident with my work that I thought I could at least go with a third place or what but unfortunately, my confidence wasn't enough for me to win the prize.

After seeing the works of the winners, it's pretty obvious why they're the one chosen. I mean look at those compared to mine. If art is a person, their works are like adult and mine looks like a premature baby.

Nevertheless, I'm still thankful that I get to participate in their competition. It's quite fun for me especially the thrill of the 4 hours work frame. I guess it's just not my time yet. It may be a failure for me that day, but it's not the end for tomorrow.
