Hail to the Hive!
Scattered along the rivers and canals of the UK are Canal and River Trust Facilities that provide water points, garbage disposal and ( yuck) the ability to offload human waste (as contrary to popular belief we don’t dump it in the canal).
They don’t always have all of these together as sometimes it may only be water or waste and then some have even more with showers and toilets etc.
This one has the lot so we are offloading and refilling.
Now this does take time and is in no way comparable to a Formula 1 pit stop, in fact you can easily have lunch while doing it and still have time to poke around taking lhotos. Our water tank was nearly empty and that holds 150 litres so it takes a while depending on the water pressure at supply.
You do need British Waterways Key to access the facilities as they are not always staffed with personnel. Even the waterpoint is locked.
I can’t help thinking that they are missing out on an opportunity at places like this as I have observed people love to stop and watch the boats at locks and bridges. Building a cafe with supply shop would attract non boaters to watch the bkats and the boaters would also use the cafe and shop for convenience. You would need both to make it work and they are saying that the canals are getting busier.
The canals are evolving and it will be interesting to see what happens in the future.
