Monasterio de San Francisco del Valle de Dios in Black and White 📸 🕍

These are the days that I can dedicate a little more time to my blog. As I told you in my post last week, I was walking the streets of Santiago de Compostela and seeing some things that go unnoticed when the most striking thing is the Cathedral.

At the end of one of the little streets of the city is a church that is a former Franciscan monastery. It is called Monasterio de San Francisco del Valle de Dios, and is one of the monuments declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1896.

Estos son los días que puedo dedicar un poco más de tiempo a mi blog. Como les conté en mi post de la semana pasada, estuve recorriendo las calles de Santiago de Compostela y viendo algunas cosas que pasan desapercibidas cuando lo que más llama la atención es la Catedral.

Al final de una de las callecitas poco transitadas de la ciudad se encuentra una iglesia que es un antiguo monasterio franciscano. Se llama Monasterio de San Francisco del Valle de Dios, y es uno de los monumentos declarado patrimonio de la humanidad por la Unesco en el año 1896.

Something that I found curious about this monument is the fact that the church façade was the work of Simón Rodríguez, for those who do not know, Simón Rodriguez was a Venezuelan intellectual who was the teacher of Simón Bolivar the Liberator of America.

And right next to the façade a sculpture was erected in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, the figure after whom the monastery was named.

Algo que me pareció curioso sobre este monumento es el hecho que la fachada de la iglesia  fue obra de Simón Rodríguez, para los que no saben, Simón Rodríguez fue un intelectual Venezolano que fue maestro de Simón Bolívar el Libertador de América.

Y justo al lado de la fachada se erigió una escultura en honor de  San Francisco de Asís, figura de la cual fue dado el nombre a este monasterio.

I think there are many places to discover in Santiago, but one day is not enough to see everything. Soon I will be visiting again this iconic place of pilgrimage and I will be bringing other relics in pictures.

Creo que en Santiago hay muchos lugares por descubrir, pero un solo día no basta para verlo todo. Pronto estaré nuevamente de visita en ese lugar icónico de peregrinación y estaré trayendo otras reliquias en imágenes.
