Contrary to sometimes popular belief, images in black and white aren't just to cover up bad lighting situations. In fact, there are times that a photo in black in white is much more difficult to light and compose than it's full color friend.
One such situation can be when there is a busy background with lots of green leaves. Your subject can get lost in the chaos of the background. The trick is to make sure there is adequate contrast between your subjects.
But I do love how it can eliminate the distraction of colors at times. How it forces the eye to focus on the subject and take not of expression.
And at times, draw you into the mystery of thought and wonder of what might be happening in a scene. What was the person thinking, feeling, or in a particular location/position
But mostly for me it feels classic. Timeless. Nostalgic.
So...SHOUT OUT TO BLACK AND WHITE! Cheers to keeping monochrome alive.
