I'm grinning right now...Yep, even as I write this. You see, I've completed the off-roader Lego build and...IT WORKS! I never doubted my building ability - Much.
Tonight I complete the third and last stage of the build and it came together really nicely. I was a little afraid I may have messed up earlier in the build and the body wouldn't fit properly but it did thankfully and all the suspension, steering and drive-train works as intended. There was a sigh of relief for sure.
Once complete it was a simple matter of downloading the Lego Technic Control+ app to my phone, update the firmware, select the vehicle I want to control (there's others controllable by this app) and calibrate. The image shows that calibration in process which simply turns the wheels left and right to calibrate the travel and then it's ready to go.
The following were snapped off my phone, from the Control+ app.
The controls themselves are really simple. Right is forward and back, the left toggle is steering left and right as below. You'll also note it shows the lean angle and incline in degrees (top right and left in blue) and also the speed and fuel (battery power in this case). There are other functions however I'm just exploring them so will write about them later.
The vehicle isn't the fastest RC car I have driven, but has a certain cool-factor considering it is made of Lego, and I was surprised at how responsive the controls were.
I drove it around the living room for a while, probably annoying Faith because she was trying to watch the Bourne Ultimatum on TV...Still, her annoyance didn't curb my enthusiasm in the least bit...My plan is to do a video of this model driving out in the field somewhere although I'm not sure when I'll get the time to do so. I will get to it though, and will post it here of course.
I really enjoyed this build. The model is only made up of just over 950 parts but there were some nice technical elements to this build and the extra-cool ability to drive it around makes it my favourite build so far.
So, you know what this means right? I'm currently without a Lego build to work on.
I don't have any plans to buy a set though as I think I might buy some assorted blocks and freestyle a bit which will mean Faith can build too...More than one person doing a Lego Technic set-build is a recipe for disaster but free-styling is made for more than one person!
I have my eye on a couple Technic sets though, the Bugatti Chiron and Liebherr R 9800 Excavator which is cool AF...But it's going to be assorted blocks for a while...I don't have enough money to get one of the others. Hurry up and go up steem! Lol.
I hope you guys keep an eye out for the 4x4 video and my future lego builds. Thanks for following this build and for reading. Please feel free to ask questions if you like.
