They say that grey hair is the glory of the aged which signifies they reached that mark and that fact goes with other tell tale signs as well.
Time is ticking fast and we aren't going to get younger again and one of these days we are going to face the truth of life that getting older is inevitable, and this is true in the life of my grandmother today--although I too must face this truth, also.
Last month, my grandmother ('lola' as we call her) came knocking at our door telling us that her right eye is hurting so bad. At first I disregard it thinking it was only a minor thing yet after she was referred to an eye specialist we learned that her eyes needed an immediate surgery because of glaucoma. She was old, my grandmother is over seventy already and no one could tell she needed medical help apart from her age and weight gain but she needed our help this time.
We learned that eye surgery is costly on private specialists but free if taken from the provincial hospital. We choose the free alternative, of course. I hope that my grandmother would find the time for her surgery.
This year is a test for everyone in my family because my father just got out of hospital but in this year, we also found out that it brought us closer together and to my strong and able grandmother--it was but a humbling experience for her.
It is true that as we age our body will change as well and I learned a few lessons in life as I slowly approached to 30s that,
• Life is meant to be lived
• We should care for one another, and
• Life is short, but we must extend it while we can
My grandmother lived for a long time and when I was younger I've seen people that are way older than her that aren't here now. One of her best kept secret is she think that she's still so young and she's never old. Maybe that is the thing or maybe its in her genes.
On the side note, we convinced her to take the surgery because we wanted her cured and I hope she would do it sooner than later.
Our life is indeed our own responsibility but we could share it with others too, and I am blessed to see that each and everyone in my family is helping each other because we can't loose it today. May the Lord bless our pursuits in this lifetime because this thing is shared too.
The photos are irrelevant to the topic because I don't have a clearer photo of my grandmother.
