i think the reason why I enjoyed them so much as a teenager wasn't because they were great games forever, but they were great games given the options we had at the time. Now most of the games just seem tedious and rather repetitive. There are exceptions of course but most of the platformers from back then, for example, wouldn't hold the attention of really anyone in today's audience.
