I Collected the Platinum Trophy in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

When I made my first impressions post about Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart I was around halfway through the game. Now I have not only finished the game but I also collected all of the trophies for the game, making it the second game on my PS5 that I collected a platinum trophy for.

Platinum difficulty

When it comes to collecting the platinum trophy for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart it's safe to say that the difficulty isn't very high. 13% of all players have done it. You don't have to go through any tedious grinds as long as you're somewhat thorough as you go through each stage. Most of the trophies you'll get for simply playing through the game while some are gotten from interacting with a few random objects and taking down enemies with specific weapon techniques.

There are quite a few collectibles in the game but you only have to get a few of them to unlock the platinum trophy. There's only one type where you need to collect all of them and those are the Craigerbears. Apparently these were placed in the game as a homage to a developer named Craig who died. These are the only items in the game that doesn't shop up on the map so you will actually have to look for them. There's one on each planet which means you'll have to do a thorough look wherever you go. One you find it you can keep on blasting through.

One trophy that was quite annoying was the last one I collected for unlocking and buying all the weapons in the game. When I had completed the game and all other achievements I was quite dumbfounded as to what weapons I had missed. I had to read the tip tied to the trophy on the trophy screen to find out there's a few weapons that can only be bought in New Game+. What's even more dumb is that you get them all in the first shop as soon as you start NG+. Really weird decision and the only trophy I had to look up tips on.

Final game review

I enjoyed Ratched & Clank: Rift Apart from start to finish. It starts off fun and it ends off fun. It's pretty rare for a game to not have any boring or tedious sections and this is one of those rare games. There are no drawn out sequences or tedious activities to attend to. Even backtracking is made easy by the jet boots you unlock relatively early in the game. They overall did a very good job of keeping a good pace to the game.

Even after the game ended my favorite part about it is still the weapon variety it brings to the table. I unlocked quite a few new guns after my last post and they kept on being fun to use and most importantly relevant to use. So many games often fall in a trap where the early game guns become so strong and upgraded that late game guns just rot away in the inventory. Not in this game. Out of the 20 or so guns I had by the end of the game there were only two that I didn't put in my rotation. Not because they weren't strong enough but simply because I didn't need to.

My least favorite part of the game was most likely the story. It's not bad but it's just not good. Luckily the solid and fun gameplay really outweighs this so it isn't much of a problem. It's mostly a case of a bad guy trying to take over the universe and the good guys have to stop him. There might be something in here for fans of the franchise but for me it was simply just mediocre.

I don't regret playing this game at all and I would highly recommend it to anyone who ever gets the chance to play it. It is currently included in the Game Catalogue of the PlayStation+ subscription so if you own a PS5 you can go play it straight away. If you don't then you're still in luck because the game is just under a month away from launching on PC. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart definitely deserves a place on your Steam wishlist.
