Mucking For Science - Story mission in Vurhonga Savanna | theHunter: Call of the Wild

Hello and Welcome back to my blog!

One of the most popular maps in theHunter: Call of the Wild is Vurhonga Savanna. It features a variety of biomes, mostly wide-open plains with many unique animals to hunt. And many of them are big and aggressive animals like Cape Buffalos and Lions. I have hunted a lot in these plains. So much that I even forgot there is a story that I have to complete.

Each reserve has a unique story divided into many main missions and side quests or missions given by other characters. It is shameful of me not to have completed the story in this map even though I own this DLC map. So, today, I decided to focus on that and look at my next main mission. There were a couple of side missions, but I wanted to focus on the main mission first.

It was night time and you know I hate nighttime in this game. So, I went to bed and rested until morning.

In this mission, we had to go to the southeastern part of the reserve called Zhonga and go to the swamp to collect some water samples so we could keep an eye on the pathogens and save the reserve from further difficulties. The reserve is not in a good spot, there are already a lot of challenges like poaching, bad weather and drying of these swamps and sometimes outbreaks. All of these need to be kept in mind while running the reserve.

We are taking instructions from our grandfather who is the current warden of the reserve and now he wants to teach us a few things to take care of this reserve.

This was a fairly simple mission. Our first objective was to enter the Zhonga area and reach the swamps. But they were at least 2 kilometres away from any outposts. Luckily, I bought the ATV DLC so it won't take that long.

I rode the ATV while my trusty companion, Sheru, ran behind me. Poor guy always keeps running and doesn't get enough treats for that. Am I a monster?

But my first stop was not the swamps, it was a watch tower where I could survey this part of the reserve and pin all the points of interest on the map.

As I was driving ATV, a couple of Side-Stripped Jackals crossed just in front of me. I got out to see if there were more and if I could take them out. I saw another one coming towards me and going behind those two.

I drew out my overpowered 7mm rifle, removed the scope quickly and took the shot. I didn't have enough time, it was a panic shot. But that landed on the lungs and he was out right there. I could have gotten a Silver trophy from this one but my rifle was too powerful for this one. Needed a weapon that covered class 2 animals.

I couldn't care less. I got a Jackal which is not easy to spot. They blend well with the grasses here.

I hopped on my ATV and drove away. Soon, I reached the spot where I could survey the land.

This is where I realised, I was high up and needed to go down to the swamps. Well, nothing to worry about, let's see how my ATV can handle this descent.

Somehow, I managed to reach down but it took a huge toll on my ATV's health and I even flipped towards the end. Now black smoke was coming out of it indicating it would catch fire if I damaged it further. But I didn't listen to it and still drove it like a mad person. The last coffin in the nail was the bump into a tree.

It burst out in flames, making it useless and I had to cover the rest of the distance by walking.

My grandfather was constantly telling me stuff about the reserve and talking about collecting samples and keeping an eye on the animals to notice diseases and whatnot.

There were three different swamps that I had to take samples from. They were close to each other so it didn't take that long.

As I was finishing the mission, a buffalo ran past me. I don't know what's happening today but the animals are choosing to tease me. I tried to take a shot but all I could shot are the buttocks and that was not enough to take down this massive guy.

I thought that there would be another objective after collecting the samples but nope. That's all I had to do in this mission.

There seems to be a lot of Cape Buffalos here as I was seeing a lot of footprints everywhere. I decided to follow some of them and after a few minutes of searching, I found a group who probably were drinking water.

All but one sensed me and tried to run away but one female who was there was stuck. I don't know if it was a bug or if she was not afraid of anything. At first, I was going for no scope but then I decided to make it faster and went from the brain shot.

It is the quickest way to kill an animal but it damages the skull and if it is the trophy organ (in most cases it is) you will lose the maximum reward.

That was it from this time. This mission unlocked a couple of new missions, one main and a side mission. I will leave you with a shot that I took in the morning. Clouds in this reserve are not a regular occurrence.

Thanks for reading...

Until next hunt...
