When I was younger, I remembered that I would play the death out of Destroy all Humans! This game saw us playing as an alien whose goal is to harvest human DNA by collecting human brains. Despite playing this game a bunch as a young whippersnapper, I never actually beat. So when it came to adding more games to my video game collection, I decided that I would pick up the Series.

One thing about Destroy All Humans is that the story is a kind of all over the place. The story kicks off with Crypto 136 being sent to earth to acquire Furon DNA from human brains, but he ends up crashing.

The game then shows us Crypto 137 and gives us some exposition. It turns out that the Furon race is dying out, mostly because they don’t have any genitals. So in order to not die out completely, the Furon’s clone more of themselves. Over time, the DNA they had became diluted. And it turns out that many moons ago the Furons visited Earth, somehow gave the humans their DNA, and now humans have undiluted Furon DNA located in their brain.

So Crypto’s job is to land on earth and kick start the invasion. And it all starts at a farm. Pox tells him in order to ensure the invasion goes smoothly that he needs to identify the dominant life form on the planet. And that’s when Crypto runs into cows, who he is disgusted by since they eat with their mouths. After one walks away and craps in front of him, Crypto 137 decides to return the insults.

Crypto has a ray weapon which at first only has an electric power, and also telekensis. After watching some cows fly, the farmer comes out with his shotgun, not happy at all about this. So Crypto zapped him to death. His wife runs out and starts screaming at the “little green man,” an insult that stings Crypto deeply.

Before he could do anything, a bunch of farmers, attack. But it’s never a good idea to attack a “spaceman” with only shotguns. I flung them through the air, zapped them, and harvested their brains for my evil plans.
Just then the cops appeared questioning what appeared to be the farmer’s wife and decided to inspect the flying saucer. I rushed over there and did what aliens do best.

But it’s not over yet. Crypto hops into his saucer and begins to burn down the farm. The flying saucer mechanics is the big thing I remember from when I was a kid. I thought this was awesome for the time, as every building can actually collapse.

And then the Army showed up. Talk about a quick response time. They brought a few tanks, and they were pretty easy to deal with. I had to swing back and forth to dodge the tanks, but it wasn’t anything overly difficult. After the tanks were destroyed, it was time to Nope out of the area.

Crypto’s 137 adventures are not finished, however. As Pox spots a group of humans gathering at what is a fair, and tasks Crypto with finding a “malleable” human and leads them back to the mother-ship for questioning. This here introduces us to another important mechanic of the game. The disguise function.

In the fairgrounds, Pox says that I need to find the most dumb, weak willed human, and I can find out who is that by reading people’s minds. After reading a few people, it became clear that the dumbest one was “Miss Rockwell,” a beauty pageant winner. And, of course, she was located in the big tent in the middle of the fair.

Now we are introduced to the hypnotise function. Outside of a few missions, this function is pretty much useless unless for specific mission objectives. In this case, Crypto uses it to hypnotise the dunce into going back to his saucer.
And it seems like she likes it… A little too much. Talk about a slut. And now it was time for a little more destruction. Vaporizing the fairgrounds was a bit harder than the farm. There were more tanks around but I was able to manage even though it took me a good 5 minutes after I thought everything was destroyed to realize that the Ferris wheel was still there. Thanks to the camera placement, it’s hard to see the objective marker above it!

While escaping, Pox spots something unusual about some cows. It turns out that these are radioactive! Scientists were turning them radioactive for one reason or another, and to show them their mistake, Crypto decided to kill the scientists. And what better way to kill them than with their own creations!

Afterwards, it turns out that the mayor had called a town meeting where he was going to confirm that aliens were among them. We needed to stop him. So I disguised myself as a military man and made my way through town, reading the minds of everyone I came across. Until I found the mayor hiding. Now by mistake, I killed him, which failed the mission.
What I needed to do was put him to sleep while disguising myself as him. Once I had that done, the second time around it was time to go to the meeting.

The citizens of Rockwell had a few questions, like why their cows were glowing. You could select a few answers but needed to say something that they would approve of. So, treating them like the dumb country bumpkins they are, I told the first man that his glowing cows were normal and healthy, and they bought it.

After that, I blamed Communism for the things happening in the town and they all clapped. And lastly I discredit the scientists, they ate that up like the good lil’ humans they are! But then they asked about the destruction at the fair. So I made “False Promises”

Then a woman asked why this wasn’t happening in Santa Modesta, and I blamed it all on the cows. How we go full circle. The crowd was happy with the answers and Crypto walked off. At this point, it might be interesting for you to know the “mayor” we played at was named Nixon, as in Richard Nixon.

I’m not going to lie. I’m a bit disappointed in myself that I can’t make these posts longer. But life has been so frigging crazy that this is really all the time I can find to write. Each one of these posts is about an hour or so of gameplay. With Destroy All Humans, I’m hoping to have these series of posts finished within a 2 week time period. But I guess we’ll see what happens!
