Time to get weird out west 🤠

Weird West: Definitive Edition was one of the PS Plus Essential titles for the month of October 2023. I love Western games and without a doubt love weird stuff. This seemed like it could be a game that I enjoyed, but there was only one way to find out.

Weird West, developed by Wolfeye Studios and published by Devolver Digital, is an intriguing and unique entry into the world of video games. Released in 2022 (Definitive edition in 2023), this game draws inspiration from various genres, offering players an enthralling blend of action RPG, isometric perspective, and a rich narrative. The game is the brainchild of Rafael Colantonio, the co-founder of Arkane Studios, known for the Dishonored series. This experience alone instills a sense of anticipation for a world filled with mystery and intrigue.

Weird West presents a reimagined version of the Wild West where supernatural elements, arcane magic, and bizarre creatures coexist with the gritty realism of the historic American frontier. Players embark on a journey through a series of interconnected stories, allowing them to switch between five distinct characters with diverse skills and abilities. This unique storytelling approach, paired with its richly detailed world, offers players the freedom to explore and interact with various elements of the game, making each playthrough a personalized experience.

The game also excels in its art style and atmosphere, providing a striking visual aesthetic that enhances the sense of the bizarre. The isometric perspective not only adds to the game's distinct visual appeal but also contributes to its tactical combat system. Weird West stands out as an immersive and ambitious title that offers an intriguing twist on traditional Wild West narratives, drawing players into a world that seamlessly blends the ordinary and the supernatural.

I really wasn't much of a fan of Weird West. Although the art style was unique and the setting and story both seem to be on point, the gameplay just didn't hook me. I think that a game like Evil West is much more up my alley. I really hope that one gets added to PS Plus soon, it would be such a good title to get and I still have yet to play it.
