Hivesigner in 2021

Let's talk about what to expect from Hivesigner in 2021. Update on state of Hivesigner is long overdue, apologies for that. Last few months there has been a lot of feedback regarding changes on Hivesigner and we sat together with team month ago and planned what can we do to solve those user experience related issues.

Ultimately, we choose to rewrite Hivesigner frontend and making sure it is much more user friendly, not only for crypto/tech familiar people as well as new users who are much more familiar with how web2.0 works. Current codebase is not really extensible and different from our dev stack as well, making it harder to maintain and extend.

Hivesigner's strength is in OAuth2 authentication, many probably doesn't see it but it is the best thing Hive could have in terms of easy adoption. All social networks have Sign in with button, Facebook, Twitter, Google, etc. And making sure Hivesigner is easily adopted and integrated into many web2.0 apps is our job.

We love OAuth2 and uses cases it offers is enormous, it is like a bridge between web2.0 and web3.0.

Here is what we are doing in our rewrite:

  • User authorization flow simplified
  • User security layers improved to be extendable (explore options such as hardware, 2fa, pin, touch id, face id using Web Authentication API)
  • User transaction signing improved (operation finder, easier form filling generation)
  • User app usage stats
  • User authority management (remind user to revoke unused apps/services)
  • App registration simplified
  • App scope enforcement
  • App usage stats
  • Active or hot signing made easy
  • Discovery of new apps and services improvement
  • Onboarding
  • Backward compatibility
  • Improve/show/introduce more use cases

Some of the features we all loved in previous versions combined with new experience will come to life soon.

Expect initial new release of Hivesigner in Q1 of 2021.
