Hi, Outdoors and more community! A few days ago, I shared an article about how I got into a Ski accident in the French Alps. It was our third year visiting the French Alps to ski. And because of that, I got the chance to check my old videos during our first time.
As a first-timer, I look silly doing the ski
For sure, we have all those silly moments for doing the first time. I was 33 when I learned to ski. As a girl from the tropics, this kind of outdoor hobby was new for me.

I also complained about how difficult it was to wear the ski shoes as they were heavy. I thought that it was as simple as ice skating shoes, but it's not. LOL, I felt so stupid with my first impression.
When I was wearing my shoes and trying to walk in the snow, I cursed my husband as it was not that easy. My patience was tested as I was 9 months postpartum and was a breastfeeding momma to my daughter. At that time, I just wanted to give up and not pursue skiing. I heard my daughter crying in her baby trolley sometimes.
Part of me was like, I should give up being an adventurous person and just focus on motherhood. But another part of me was saying, I am just too lucky to be given this opportunity to experience this kind of winter sport, so grab it.
My husband coached me on how to ski
Ah, to be honest, I sometimes won't listen to my husband if you could see the video above. My husband was telling me to break but I pursued. I was too overconfident and it's really bad. This is the debutant slope.
When we went to the plateau slope, I was being overconfident again. My husband received a phone call. I didn't wait for my husband. I skied in the wrong way and went shoot straight away. LOL, I was flying then fell like a turtle legs up high. The skis and poles were everywhere. My husband was shocked and the working staff also witnessed my stupidity. They were ready to call in for rescue to bring me to the hospital.
My stupidity and overconfidence brought me back to reality. I even prayed to my mother to protect me while I was falling so that I wouldn't hit anything or I could be dead.

Winter Skiing is more expensive than Scuba Diving
I thought that doing Open Water scuba diving certification was expensive already. To get the certification, you have to pay about $500 with the inclusion of scuba gear during the 3-days of training. And it's up to you to get the advanced open-water certification which I paid for an additional $60. The recreational diving for one session only costs $32. For less than $100, I could have 3 diving sessions for one beach vacation week. Again, with the inclusion of scuba gear rental. What am I saying is, as someone who lives on a tropical island in the Philippines, the beach is just more accessible for me.
I was interested in doing winter skiing in South Korea before but I failed because of the visa. But one thing is for sure, if that really happened, winter skiing in South Korea would just be a ONE-TIME EXPERIENCE only.
Now that I am here in France, I couldn't make it to the French Alps if not without my husband. I couldn't make it if he was not into this sport. Not all French people are really into this sport. Also, I wasn't expecting to get married to a European guy who loves both winter and underwater sports.
Not all Asians are into winter sports unless you're from China, South Korea, and Japan who are always present during the Winter Olympics as they have winter snow season in their countries.
But all I can say is, winter sports are luxury hobbies. For me, it's the most expensive sport I've tried, next is scuba diving.
When I paid for the ski pass for two people, that was 110 Euros (55 Euros each ski pass for one day). I was like, oh, that's expensive. If you're a skier at an expert level, for sure you're going to enjoy the Winter Wonderland for a whole day of skiing. As a beginner like me, my energy level will only last for three hours.
My Eagerness to Learn
My husband was surprised that I was quick to learn and enjoy skiing on the debutant slope. He promised me that he would buy me a proper outfit for the year 2 ski holiday, I got my white winter jacket and a pair of gloves in Spain and a new ski pants at Decathlon.
As you can see in the video above, I was only wearing black jogging pants and wore another layer of pants under my jogging pants. Somehow, there was an improvement in my skiing practice, better skiing than the previous video.
Alright, that's enough for now. Hopefully, I can share more of my winter ski experience on Hive. I still need to ask for other videos from my husband, though. :D
