Today, I am excited to share with you one of the gems from my coin collection: the 1 Kina Elizabeth II coin from Papua New Guinea. Issued by the Bank of Papua New Guinea, this coin features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, who reigned from 1975 to 2022. Classified as a standard circulation coin, it was minted between 1975 and 1999 and holds a face value of 1 Kina. In terms of exchange rate, 1 PGK is equivalent to approximately USD 0.28.

The coin is composed of copper-nickel, with a composition of 75% copper and 25% nickel. It weighs 14.52 grams and has a diameter of 33.72 millimeters, making it a substantial coin in terms of size and weight. With a thickness of 2.60 millimeters, it fits comfortably in the palm of your hand. The shape of the coin is round with a round hole in the center, adding a unique and distinctive aspect to its design.

The reverse side of the coin showcases two crocodiles, each flanking the center hole. The script on this side is also in Latin, with the lettering "K1" indicating its value.

Examining the coin's edge, you will notice a reeded pattern. This adds texture and enhances the overall appearance of the coin, showcasing the attention to detail given during its minting process. Speaking of minting, this particular coin has been minted at various mints over the years. The Royal Australian Mint in Canberra, Australia, has been responsible for minting coins since 1965, including this one. The Royal Mint in Llantrisant, United Kingdom, also contributed to the minting process from 1968 onward. Additionally, you may find a mintmark of The Franklin Mint (FM) on some coins. The Franklin Mint, located in Wawa, Pennsylvania, United States, has been involved in the production of coins since 1964.

As a coin collector, I find great joy in discovering and sharing the stories behind these remarkable pieces of currency. Each coin offers a glimpse into the history, culture, and craftsmanship of the nation it represents. The 1 Kina Elizabeth II coin from Papua New Guinea is no exception. Its intricate design, featuring the queen's effigy, crocodiles, and unique shape, captures the essence of this beautiful country.

I hope you enjoyed learning about this coin as much as I enjoyed sharing it with you. If you have an interest in numismatics or would like to see more coins from my collection, feel free to follow me. I look forward to showcasing more fascinating coins in the future.
