Community Engagement Challenge: Tournaments Reloaded

Prelude
Hi all, good day to all of you. It's been a while since I've written on the Community Engagement Challenge and interestingly this week's theme for Community Engagement is on tournaments which is also something that I have done in quite a long while. And so, let's relook at what tournaments are and do up a little guide for new Splinterlands players to refer.

Tournaments
While we have many kinds of play modes from rank battles to brawls, there is one play mode that I find bulk of the players not engaging in. And this particular play mode is tournaments.

Psychological Barrier
I think when people hear about tournaments, new players will have that psychological barrier that they lack the cards needed to win tournaments. For example, new players will be worried that they do not have a complete set of wild cards or modern cards to win them tournaments.

But to me, matches in tournament are essentially the same as what you will face in normal day ranked battles. To be honest, I really think if one have a good amount of Soul Bound reward cards, you will stand a good chance. Hence, please do not neglect standard rank battles to earn the Glint you need to open up more chest to get more cards in your collection. Otherwise, rental is another alternative that one can explore. Do note, we do not need to rent every single thing, rent only things that you know make a difference to your gameplay and not for the sake renting.

Where To Start?
For new players, my suggestion is to start from Modern Tournaments since you will encounter a smaller number of cards and they will be cards that you face day to day in your daily battles.

So in the format toggle, select Modern and start looking in from there.

I've noticed one which is organized by sps.tournaments which I think is very suitable for new players:

Personally, this is a really very worth it tournament. The entry fee is just 50 dec. And to get a decent return to the amount you invested, you just need to come in at rank 128. It might look like it is a daunting task but with the amount of practice you've played thus far, you should be generally well oiled.

Just to put the prize into perspective, by coming in at rank 128, you will already take back what you've invested and able to join 4 more of such tournaments. To me, this is actually a good deal, who knows, this could be your avenue for farming SPS. And when SPS is built up, you got more Glint and more Glint means more cards which will make you even more viable in the tournament.

If you pay a closer look, there is only 45 people whom have entered the tournament so far, when the time to cut off for the tournament strikes and no further players register, so it just means.... EVERYBODY IS A WINNER AND THERE IS FREE SPS!

Getting Beter
By playing consistently in tournaments, one will know what kind of battles they encounter and the cards that seemingly do well in tournaments. From there you will know what to prepare and how to engage each battle.

One thing that I always like to do is to analyze other people's matches and learn from them, to see what they choose and how the do up their lineups. There are so many matches to learn from, so what one need is just to spend a little time, understand how others plays then we get better by continuously play, learning from mistakes and improving our skills. Who knows in the near future, I will see you at the top of the leaderboard.

With that, I think I will once again kickstart playing tournaments so as to expand my playing and also to learn strategies from others.

Wrap Up
I hope this little guide will do new players well and also help many more to learn about tournaments. Giving yourself a little challenge once in a while is fun, sometimes you can even earn a little to boost up your assets. I recall back then when my metafrens and I had a mini tournament and we all had fun guessing how each other will do up their individual lineup in matches and discussed our selection. Let us bring back all the fun playing tournaments!

I am currently part of PIZZA, an active gaming and creative arts crypto community on the HIVE blockchain and part of PIZZA guild. Popular cryto games such as SPLINTERLANDS, RISING STAR and HASHKINGS are actively discussed in this community.

Many events are being organized from time to time. Join the PIZZA DISCORD. This is a place filled with 💰🍕🎁GIVEAWAYS & AIRDROPS💰🍕🎁 and most definitely consisting of a friendly community to be in.

Till my next battle sharing, take care, stay safe and happy battling!
