Introduction
Hi! This is the 3rd week of "Exploring the Chaos" where I take a look on Chaos Legion cards, theirs stats, their utility and their market price.
Last time, I talked about the Fiends and how important they are, replacing Furious Chicken in the Modern league. Now, I'm going to discuss about some new abilities that Chaos Legion has bring to us and I will start with the Scattershot ability.
Icon | Ability Name | Description |
---|---|---|
Scattershot | Range and magic attacks hit a random enemy target. |
One of the interesting things when playing Splinterlands is that most of the cards that we use has different abilities and can gain more as you level them up which adds more game variation and made it more enjoyable. With the arrival of the Chaos Legion, there are multiple new abilities that have been added to the game, one of them being the Scattershot ability. This ability lets range and magic attack to hit random enemies regardless of thier position and if your opponent happens to have Taunt, rest assured that it will ignore that and be able to attack other cards, cards that your opponent might not want you to attack. However, if your opponent has a card in their team that has Camouflage, the only way you can hit them with your attack is when they are in the first position.
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
Can hit any enemy card regardless of position | Attack is random, not focus- firing on a single opponent |
Ignores Taunt. | Very low number of cards with the ability, limiting how many you can put in your line up. |
Good for Explosive Weaponry rule set or with summoner Blast abilities. | Mostly, range cards so they can't attack in the first position and susceptible to misses due to Flying, Dodge and Blind. |
Abilities and Card Stats
Blood Maker is a Fire element Chas Legion rewards card which you can obtain for free on your daily and season chest. It has the Scattershot ability at level 1 and at level 6, it gains the Cripple which will remove 1 max health from the opponent every time it hits the target. As this is on Fire team, this can be a good match with the summoner Yodin Zaku which gives + 1 range and Blast ability.
Acid Shooter is an Earth element range card that only cost 2 mana with Scattershot at level 1. It gains the Cripple ability at level 4 and at level 6, it gains the Poison which will deal 2 damage to an afflicted card at the end of every turn. It's good for low mana matches and if you are playing on higher leagues, then this card throwing Poison left and right is a sight to enjoy.
Portal Spinner is a Life element range card that has the Scattershot ability at level 1. It gains the Snare ability at level 5 which will removes the Flying ability of monsters. It also has good synergy with the Life summoner General Sloan which give +1 range attack to range allies.
Gem Meteor is a Neutral element range card with Scattershot ability at level 1. At level 5, it gains the Piercing ability which deal the extra damage from it's attack directly to the opponent's health when their armor is all gone. As it is a neutral monster, It can either go with Yodin Zaku or General Sloan with their + range buff.
Chaos Dragon currently is the only magic card with the Scattershot ability while also have Flying and which belongs to the dragon element. It has a very high mana cost of 14 which makes it more in use at high mana cap matches. It has the Blast ability at level 2 and Blind at level 3 which will give 15% chance for your opponent to miss their attack.
Card Details
Edition: Chaos Legion
Rarity: Legendary
Element: Fire
Role: Summoner
Abilities:
- All friendly monsters receive the Scattershot ability at the start of the battle.
- All friendly monsters receive the Piercing ability at the start of the battle.
- All friendly Monsters have +2 Speed.
For the last card, we have the Legendary Fire summoner Conqueror Jacek which is an airdrop card and until we hit the required amount of Chaos Legion packs, we will not be able to use this card. This summoner gives + 2 speed, Piercing and Scattershot to all allied monsters. Now, this solves some of the problem with the lack of Scattershot monster while also giving speed to the Fire team with lots of very slow cards. It's also a very interesting card to use with Explosive Weaponry as it's every attack goes random. If Grandmaster Rathe is the defense king, I can say that Conqueror Jacek is the RNG king.
Scattershot in Action

---|---|
Silver League: Modern Format | 20 Mana Cap Available elements: Fire, Water, Life, Death |
| Summoners do not give any stat buffs or de- buffs or grant/use any abilities. |
| Melee attack from anywhere. |
We both choose Life element but due to the rule set, both of our summoners cannot use thier abilities. Notice how my opponent has a Taunt which is supported by Repair and Tank Heal. Without the use of Portal Spinner to attack his backline monster, I will be in the loop where all the damage that I deal will just be healed and repair while dealing damage to me.

---|---|
Gold League: Wild Format | 44 Mana Cap Available elements: Fire, Earth, Life, Dragon |
| No type of healing is allowed in the battle. So, abilities like Tank Heal, Triage, Heal are rendered useless. This de-buff cannot be removed by using Cleanse. |
All monsters get the Blast Ability which does additional damage to Monsters adjacent to the target Monster. Additional damage is equivalent to main damage/2 rounded up. |
This is a Gold league were one of the most ideal ruleset for Scattershot is in effect which is the Explosive Weaponry. I use the Legendary summoner Quix the Devious to decrease thier speed and range attack while the Legionnaire Alvar not only has huge armor but also has the Void Armor and Demoralize ability which limiting the damage both magic and melee monsters can deal to me and Giant Killer which will deals double the damage to monsters with more than 10m mana. Again my opponent chooses to use Taunt for his tank which is supported by Repair and Tank Heal while he uses magic and Sneak to deal damage both in my front and back but because I of Gem Meteor, I was able to hit my opponent's support cards, that soon stops restoring his tank's health and armor.

Gold League: Wild Format | 40 Mana Cap Available elements: Fire, Earth, Life, Death, Dragon |
All monsters get the Blast Ability which does additional damage to Monsters adjacent to the target Monster. Additional damage is equivalent to main damage/2 rounded up. | |
The Trample ability can trigger multiple times per attack if the trampled Monster is killed. |
This is another Gold league match with another Explosive Weaponry rule set. I again used the Legendary summoner ** Quix the Devious** but this time, I used Chaos Dragon for the scattershot. Thought it already has the Blast ability, it's Scattershot will allow me more chances to attack different monsters and further spread the Blast damage and since this is a magic monster, it's 3 magic damage can easily gets through my opponent's armor.
And that's all the battle Scattershot Monsters. I wasn't able to play for 2 days due to my ISP having connection issue so I do not have match data for other cards. When using this card, always take into the consideration the rule sets and what your opponent has to play because as this card attacks so random, it might not defeat monster that was beatable because the card is not dealing the damage where you wanted them to.

This are the market price for the Scattershot Cards by the time that I checked on it and is subject to change depending on when you check for prices. Since Conqueror Jacek is an airdrop card that wasn't been unlocked yet, there is no market price for it. Source: Peakmonsters
Final Thoughts
As Splinterlands continue to grow as a game, they are not only adding new cards, but is also adding new abilities that can broaden the number of strategies and combinations a player can use. Scattershot as one of these abilities not only test our skills but also our luck. Some might not like due to their randomness but I believed that when more of these cards has been released to next card series, we will be able to create more interesting gameplay and unexpected results.
And that’s it for my review for Scattershot. Hope that you learned something from it. If you want to follow my previous reviews, the links are provided below. Thanks!
