BATTLE MAGE SECRETS : GOING THE DISTANCE

image.png

Going The Distance is quite a tricky ruleset compared to others. In the battle you are limited to deploy only ranged cards; but with ranged cards unable to strike from the frontier, it become a tricky of which cards should be a sacrificial lamb. Certainly Close Range ability become sought after in this ruleset, although its not particularly always the case. Whats more important is how you balance between holding the frontier as long as possible while the rear squad barrage their arrows.

Pros & Cons.gif

Pros & Cons

Cons.png
1. This ruleset could be an advantage for players with wide collection of ranged cards, especially those possessing Close Range ability. Having Return Fire ability and any ranged damage buff will also prove to be an advantage.
1. Ranged cards was by design are more suitable to fill the back row. So the average ranged cards have limited health and armor, which made more vulnerable from any incoming attack.
2. Going The Distance only allows players to use cards with ranged attack; which means cards with dual attack type are deployable as long it has a ranged attack.

The battle has a maximum 51 mana cap, with Ferocity, Going The Distance, and Reverse Speed as the rulesets. Only Death and Dragon Splinters are excluded from use.

Ilthain is always your best summoner to have under Going The Distance ruleset. And with 51 mana cap, I have a lot of room for choice. Since Life Splinter doesn't have cards with Close Range, I decided to go with Commander Goff. Its an expensive one especially with 3 ranged damage, but I need its thick armor and health, and also Dodge to hold on the line. Anachron Bolter stood next in line, since I don't want to waste the firepower of another ranged cards. Silvershield Sheriff follow up next to be the backup Tanker, and also to contribute attack with its 3 damage, at least up to 3rd round. The rest of the squad are my fragile ranged cards but with high firepower, especially Prismologist and its Blast ability.

On the opposing side, my opponent decided to go with Franz Ruffmane. The frontier are led by Drybone Raider, a very powerful damage-dealer which cost a lot. I think its too risky to put Drybone in the front-row where it will be very vulnerable from full assault in the 1st round. Next there is Gargoya Devil and War Pegasus. Both are not the best cards for backup Tanker, but still their Flying ability might help them parry incoming attack. And then the rear squad seemed to be low mana card which not entirely focues on damage dealing. It seemed a bit reckelss to put Ajax Lightfoot in the mid-row while the weaker cards stood behind. Except of course if Ajax with its 6 speed are expected to claim Bloodlust and propel its speed far beyond; and thus it will become a shadowy figure.

I supposed to have better initiative under the Reverse Speed. But Ilthain +1 speed just reduct my initiatives. Drybone Raider with its Shatter break away Commander Goff hardly. Subsequent attack wear down both Drybone Raider and Commander Goff to their last 2 health. Silvershield Sherif managed to hit Gargoya Devil and put it in demise. The Return Fire really work well to break down the extra armor from Franz Ruffmane.

Drybone Raider open the round with a kill on Commander Goff. But it doesn'ttake long for Pelacor Arbalest to counter-attack and kill Drybone Raider. And suddenly the momentum turning into my side. Prismologist blast damage chop down Ajax Lightfoot to 2 health remaining. And Ajax has become an easy target for Silvershield Sheriff.

At the start of Round 3, my formation already have the upperhand with 5 cards against 3 cards. War Pegasus put a hard pressure by evading a number of incoming attack. And fortunately the Heal from Venari Crystalsmith saved War Pegasus from fatal blow. But the firepower from Sheriff keep a great pressure into my opponent and resulting in a kill toward Supply Runner.

By the start of Round 4, the victory is clear will come upon me. There's no chances for Venari Crystalsmith to fight back.
