"Snipers!? Why you burden me with snipers?" Quix grumbled to himself as he stalked back to where his troops were camped. One more day of dealing with the whims of the higher-ups.
Background
This post is a followup to my introduction to Quix in the Battle Share Challenge. I had so much fun with that team that I went and bought myself a Quix, and leveled up some of the key team members to level 2 or 3. I was still somewhere in mid-Bronze, and I found getting up to Silver to be a bit of a struggle due to the smaller mana caps in Bronze. I always seemed to be getting battles with 15-19 mana where the team didn't really shine. I finally made it to Silver, though with my Energy Capture Rate severely depleted, and finished off my daily quest. That was yesterday. Today in Silver, things went much smoother!
Quix Goes Sniping
Battle #1 (https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_937e6aa5ea4b33d49f6dfb0acda1f6c8&ref=cherute) "... mutter ... mutter... snipers! ... mutter..."
Quix wasn't thinking too clearly here, though he managed to win anyway. Fire Elemental and Serpentine Mystic were clearly too low health with Opportunity in play. Fortunately, his opponent had a heavy ranged backline that suffered from the range debuff.
Quix went to the field without any snipers for a couple of battles so we pass over those ones to...
Battle #2 (https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_0609d3b1c5915519ef753fee48b72fcd&ref=cherute) "Sloan! You look after this one."
General Sloan was obviously more used to deploying his snipers. With Shieldbearer to draw the fire, Elven Defender behind him to absorb the Blast damage, Time Mage to slow the enemy troops, and Portal Spinner to randomly break Divine Shields he was well set to deal with his opponent.
Battle #3 (https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_9c4cbebff33fca5d74dcb6e03cd3e55f&ref=cherute) "Thaddius, you idiot! You could have lost us this one!"
Quix was expecting to face Obsidian + Unicorn Mustang in this battle so he sent in Thaddius to counter the magic boost. Thaddius knew he was supposed to have Death Elemental in for the Snipe, but somewhere he got mixed up and sent in two more spell casters where clearly Dark Astronomer and Soul Strangler would have been better suited. Fortunately he got lucky and Silent Sha-vi brought home the win.
Battle #4 (https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_3c011d20acdde33e75a5c9c41172bcc2&ref=cherute) "Heh, heh .... I bring my secret weapon!"
Here I see Quix has skipped over a loss he suffered to a Goblin Mech team. To get some payback, and because of the high mana cap, he introduced Desert Dragon to the lineup. I think in this case Twighlight Basilisk would have been better as the Dragon never saw any combat! By the way, that Dragon is a rental - I could only dream of having such a card!
Battle #5 (https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_d33fb1e72927f4506ca2fe215cb5a8b6&ref=cherute) "We finish with these snipers!"
With the only options here being Fire and Death with not much healing potential, Serpentine Mystic was left out of the lineup and Death Elemental put in it's place for the Snipe. Also, the relatively higher mana cap allowed for some bigger DPS at the back end.
Conclusion
With only a couple of losses, I can't help but feel I got lucky today. It was fun though, and my ECR can now recover a bit from yesterday! I didn't get a cap of my quest rewards but all I got was a potion and 6 DEC.
