WHAT DOESN'T KILL YOU MAKES YOU STRONGER!

Ruleset Focus

In this week's Battle Mage Secrets, we shall explore the intriguing ruleset that is named WHAT DOESN'T KILL YOU! This unique rule grant all units with the Enrage ability, which effectively amplifies their Speed and Melee attack by 1.5 times (rounded up). Therefore, it's a rule that predominantly favors Melee attackers, giving them a considerable damage boost. When Enrage is triggered, these Melee units can deal devastating blows, often capable of eliminating enemy monsters with a single strike.

However, there's a flip side to employing Melee units under this rule. Since Speed also receives the same multiplier as the attack, fast units become challenging to hit. If a Monster misses its attack, the power behind the strike becomes irrelevant, isn't it? To counter this, some players might opt for using Magic units in such a ruleset, especially when anticipating opponents employing speedy tankers. This strategic move helps mitigate the risk of missing attacks and ensure a more consistent performance in battles! 😁

Abilities Focus

These abilities synergize effectively with the WHAT DOESN'T KILL YOU ruleset,
as they can leverage the Enrage ability to further enhance the statistics of the Monster.

Swiftness - All friendly Monsters have increased Speed

Inspire - Gives all friendly Monsters +1 Melee attack

Conversely, these abilities have a contrary effect to those mentioned earlier.
They enable you to debuff the opponent, preventing them from
fully exploiting the WHAT DOESN'T KILL YOU ruleset.

Slow - Reduces the Speed of all enemy Monsters

Demoralize - Reduces the Melee attack of all enemy Monsters

Furthermore, there is one ability that I would strongly advise against using in my battle strategy,
as it can inadvertently target the opponent's backline units at random,
unintentionally triggering the Enrage ability. This, in turn, allows the opponent to
fully exploit the benefits of the WHAT DOESN'T KILL YOU ruleset.

Scattershot - This monster's attacks hit a random enemy target

The Battle

In my alt account, jimbei, I was able to engage in a battle that involves the WHAT DOESN'T KILL YOU ruleset. To get right into the action, the battle link can be found here. Otherwise, do read on as I go into more detail regarding the lineup and fight.

Let's commence by examining the ruleset that dictates the dynamics of this battle. This battle is governed by a combination of three distinct rulesets. To start, the primary focus of this week's challenge is the WHAT DOESN'T KILL YOU ruleset, as elaborated on in our previous discussions. Following that, we have the Are You Not Entertained? ruleset, which allows each player to include one additional Gladiator Card in their lineup for each battle. Lastly, we have the Noxious Fumes ruleset, where every Monster begins the battle already inflicted with the Poisoned status. This battle operates with a mana limit set at 43 and restricts the usage of the Water and Earth Splinters.

Summoner, Grandmaster Rathe

Aside from the Unprotected ruleset, the choice to incorporate Grandmaster Rathe into my lineup significantly enhances my team's resilience in battles. The synergy between his abilities, +1 Armor and Void Armor, seamlessly strengthens the team's defensive capabilities, providing a substantial defensive advantage. Moreover, I would always opt for the Grandmaster Rathe when possible in order to execute a specific strategic tactic within my gameplay when employing the Life Splinter 😏

First Position, Imperial Knight

The Imperial Knight, a fresh addition with the Soulbound reward cards, has quickly garnered favor among players. Its appeal lies in its balanced attributes, boasting 3 Melee damage, 2 Speed, 7 Armor, and 9 Health, all at a reasonable 7 mana cost. Its substantial Armor stats pair perfectly with the pre-existing Void Armor ability, even without the enhancements from Grandmaster Rathe. With the added benefit of the Heal ability, it becomes a robust contender for a tanking role in battles, ensuring its durability throughout the fight! 😝

Second Position, Djinn Renova

Djinn Renova is a recurring choice in my lineup when I select the Life Splinter. It stands out for its impressive Magic damage and solid Health and Speed stats. The Triage ability it possesses is a valuable asset, especially when I position Iziar (refer to the Third position) in the backline. This strategic setup allows Djinn Renova to effectively Heal my team, ensuring their durability and efficiency throughout battles 💪

Third Position, Iziar

Iziar holds a pivotal position in my lineup, and its role is integral to the success of my strategy. To fully unleash its potential, it's crucial to reach Level 3 (I was fortunate to acquire 2 Gold Foil copies during an EOS reward pull), which unlocks the Martyr ability. Its Taunt ability allows me to strategically position Iziar between the Monsters I intend to empower when it eventually falls in battle. Additionally, Iziar's remarkable durability, thanks to its high Health and the Void ability, solidifies its status as a formidable force on the battlefield 😎

Fourth Position, Stitch Leech

Strategically situated in the middle of the lineup, the Stitch Leech optimizes its Life Leech ability. This placement enables the Stitch Leech to efficiently employ its Sneak ability, granting it the capacity to adeptly penetrate the enemy's backline and accumulate Health points through Life Leech. This tactical positioning serves a dual purpose, as when Iziar is eventually defeated, the Stitch Leech gains a stat boost as well thanks to the Martyr ability 😉

Fifth Position, Adelade Brightwing

The Repair ability of Adelade Brightwing perfectly complements Grandmaster Rathe's +1 Armor boost, reinforcing a robust defensive shield that ensures my team's resilience throughout the battle. Moreover, she enhances the team's effectiveness by providing a +1 Speed boost through her Swiftness ability. Most significantly, her Resurrect ability plays a pivotal role in my strategy, aiming to revive Iziar, who possesses the Martyr ability, to bestow my lineup with a substantial double stat boost! Furthermore, her Immunity ability holds immense importance in this battle, especially considering the presence of the Noxious Fumes ruleset ✌️

Last Position, Venator Kinjo

Taking the last position in my lineup, Venator Kinjo doesn't significantly bolster the offensive force of my team in this battle. Its Immunity ability, however, renders it unaffected by the Noxious Fumes ruleset, ensuring it remains free from Poison throughout the encounter. Positioned in the backline, its Camouflage ability allows Venator Kinjo to hide in the backline and potentially outlast the competition, especially as others succumb to Poison. Moreover, Venator Kinjo's Slow ability is able debuff for the opponent's lineup 😤

The Analysis

As mentioned at the start of the blog post, I highlighted the recommended abilities to utilize when navigating the WHAT DOESN'T KILL YOU ruleset. I strategically incorporated both the Swiftness and Slow abilities to harness their synergy with this unique ruleset.

Furthermore, I executed my well-established tactic featuring Iziar, which led to a dual Martyr boost benefiting both Djinn Renova and Stitch Leech. With Stitch Leech gradually siphoning the enemy's life while accumulating Health stats to offset the Poison damage, it significantly extended its survivability throughout the battle. In the end, the combination of these tactics, along with the Immunity abilities of Adelade Brightwing and Venator Kinjo, ensured their survival in this grueling contest ☠️
