This October we have had many foggy mornings in our town. In fact, almost all of my recent publications about street photography are composed of photos taken this month and with this kind of weather condition. And although most of my photographic work usually ends up being edited in black and white, I also like to reserve some photos with chromatic elements relevant enough to be edited in colour. This is the case of this publication that I brought to share with you today, in which you can appreciate many photos of Montalbán (Venezuela) when the streets are still waking up and the fog is still on them like a whitish mantle that transforms all around...

Este mes de Octubre hemos tenido en nuestro pueblo muchas mañanas con niebla. De hecho, mis casi todas mis publicaciones recientes acerca de fotografía callejera, están compuestas por fotos hechas este mes y con este tipo de condición climática. Y aunque la mayoría de mi trabajo fotográfico suele terminar siendo editado en blanco y negro, también me gusta reservar algunas fotos con elementos cromáticos lo suficientemente relevantes como para ser editadas a color. Este es el caso de esta publicación que traje para compartir con ustedes hoy, en la cual podrán apreciar muchas fotos de Montalbán (Venezuela) cuando las calles están aún despertando y la niebla sigue en ellas como un manto blanquecino que les trasforma...

Years ago a friend of my mother's, an excellent painter in oil, chalk and mainly using watercolours, looked at some of my street photos and told me: "you transform the colours in the fog into something similar to watercolours", and since then I like to refer to this kind of photos when I take them... This is something I achieve through editing using tools directly on the RAW images. Shooting in fog virtually eliminates all the harsh shadows and minimises the overall contrast of the image. Then, taking advantage of this, it is enough to play with the saturation, hue and depth values of the colours to make each one more solid. But each photograph is a world unto itself, so there is no single recipe to bring these images to this result. So, doing this is like ‘painting’ on the base photo and trying to create in it what we want to look at.

Años atrás un amigo de mi madre, excelente pintor al oleo, tiza y sobretodo usando acuarelas, observó algunas de mis fotos callejeras y me dijo: "transformas los colores en la niebla en algo similar a acuarelas", y desde entonces me gusta referirme así a este tipo de fotos cuando las hago... Esto es algo que logro a través de la edición usando herramientas directamente en las imágenes en formato RAW. El hecho de hacer las fotos con niebla prácticamente elimina todas las sombras duras y minimiza el contraste general de la imagen. Entonces, aprovechando basta con jugar con los valores de saturación, tono y profundidad de los colores para brindar mayor solidez a cada uno. Pero cada fotografía es un mundo en sí misma, así que no hay una receta única para llevar estas imágenes a este resultado. Entonces, hacer esto es como "pintar" sobre la foto base y procurar crear en ella aquello que deseamos mirar.

I like to transform what I observe because in my head things look and happen differently... So, in a way I've become a half-hearted enemy of reality, a transgressor who locks moments of time in a camera and then likes to alter them a little sitting at his PC... This is a funny thing, but over the years it has also become a tool to get to know myself and -obviously- my environment...

Me gusta transformar lo que observo porque en mi cabeza las cosas lucen y ocurren de manera distinta... Entonces, de alguna manera me he transformado en un enemigo a medias de la realidad, un transgresor que encierra momentos de tiempo en una cámara y luego gusta de alterarlos un poco sentado en su PC... Esto es algo divertido, con el paso de los años también se ha transformado en una herramienta para conocerme más a mi mismo y -obviamente- a mi entorno...

They were then exported to JGP format on which minor modifications such as straightening and adding watermarks were carried out using PhotoScape 3.6.3.}
