¡Hola comunidad! Espero estén todos bien. Hoy estoy muy emocionado de compartir una nueva ilustración del personaje Female Ocean Healer de @holozing con ustedes. Siguiendo con el estilo que he venido trabajando últimamente, he realizado a este personaje en una composición tipo retrato, dejando un poco de lado el estilo kawaii por algo mas realista tipo anime.

Para esta ilustración opte por usar poco colores y por un fondo sencillo, con la intención de que el personaje destacara y fuera el principal protagonista de la obra. Los invito a que me acompañen en esta pequeña historia de la realización de esta ilustración. 🙏

Hello community! I hope you are all well. Today I'm very excited to share a new illustration of @holozing's Female Ocean Healer character with you. Following the style I've been working lately, I've done this character in a portrait style composition, leaving a little bit aside the kawaii style for something more realistic anime style.

For this illustration I chose to use few colours and a simple background, with the intention that the character would stand out and be the main protagonist of the work. I invite you to join me in this little story of the making of this illustration. 🙏

Paso 1:

Lo primero fue trabajar en la composición, el personaje estaría en 3/4 centrado en el lienzo, por lo que comencé a realizar en un boceto siguiendo este ángulo, separe con colores los elementos como los ojos y ropa para tener mayor claridad. Luego baje la opacidad del boceto, y realice un lineart, utilice un pincel texturizado en este paso para jugar con el acabado de la línea.

Step 1:

The first thing was to work on the composition, the character would be in 3/4 centred on the canvas, so I started to make a sketch following this angle, I separated with colours the elements such as the eyes and clothes to have more clarity. Then I lowered the opacity of the sketch, and made a lineart, I used a textured brush in this step to play with the finish of the line.

Paso 2:

Rellene todo el personaje con un color gris, arme un paleta de color muy similar a la de mi referencia, pero bajando un poco su opacidad. Aplique los colores por encima del color gris en una mascara de recorte y estos los separe en capas diferentes.

Step 2:

Fill the whole character with a grey colour, build a colour palette very similar to the one in my reference, but lowering its opacity a bit. Apply the colours above the grey colour in a clipping mask and separate them in different layers.

Paso 3:

Ok, aquí comenzó el paso mas complicado de la ilustración. Tenía mis dudas sobre que tipo de sombreado darle al personaje, si uno suave o duro tipo cell shading. Aunque casi elijo el cell shading, opté por seguir con el coloreado que he venido utilizando últimamente.

Aplique las sombras con un pincel de baja opacidad, difuminándolas con el borrador para crear volumen y textura. Aunque aun es una técnica que me falta mejorar, logré dar el volumen que buscaba al personaje. Luego añadí poco a poco las iluminaciones en modo superponer y luz suave, dando un mayor énfasis en los ojos del personaje.

Step 3:

Ok, here began the most complicated step of the illustration. I had my doubts about what kind of shading to give to the character, a soft or a hard cell shading. Although I almost chose the cell shading, I opted to continue with the colouring I've been using lately.

I applied the shadows with a low opacity brush, blurring them with the eraser to create volume and texture. Although it is a technique that I still need to improve, I managed to give the character the volume I was looking for. Then I added little by little the illuminations in overlay mode and soft light, giving a greater emphasis on the character's eyes.

Por último trabajé en los detalles finales: iluminaciones en el cabello, ajustes mínimos en los colores y en un fondo sencillo con el mismo tono de color para presentar al personaje ¿Que les pareció este fanart? ¡Espero les haya gustado y nos vemos en el próximo post!
