People have different reasons for wanting a new outfit, I think celebration tops this list, the reason why I love what I do is that it centers around mostly happy moments, and this time, it's all about Désiré, pronounced as "Day-si- ray", which means 'born into good foortune' I bet you thought it was the English pronunciation, gotcha! Désiré is my little friend and neighbor's son who turns the big 10 tomorrow or should I say today 27th of October, as I'm already writing this post so late on the 26th, do whatever day you read this, please read with me.

Back to Désiré, because it's all about him today, he is an adorable 10-year-old, every parent wishes for, a well-behaved boy who is loved by everyone, it is an already known fact that when it comes to birthdays, I can't resist the urge to make a lovely outfit for the celebrant, I've been doing this for long as I can remember, making a birthday outfit is my own little way of being a part of the celebrant's happiness on that day, he has actually been reminding me about his upcoming birthday even a few months back, I thought I would meet up early this week, but fell seriously ill, the usual malaria, coupled with body pain, I've been very weak these past few days, and still in the recovery Stage, but I had to fulfill this promise.

So I will be sharing with you all today, how I brought his birthday wish to life through the making of this cute two-piece outfit.

I used an ankara fabric which has two distinct designs on it, combining them to make the shirt and shorts, I had to be creative about it.

Cutting And Sewing Process

  • I started by cutting out the shirt pattern which has two pieces for the front and one piece for the back, extending the sleeve in the form of a kimono shirt.

  • Next, I joined the shirt by the shoulder and also elongated the sleeve to reach the elbow length with the other design.

  • Continuing, I cut and turned its collar, which I sewed around the neckline, and finally sewed the shirt by the sides with seam allowance given, and hemmed it as well. Fixing the buttons and buttonholes completed the shirt-making.

  • Here are how the short patterns looks fir both front and back, the back is bigger than the front and also longer,

  • I fixed pockets to both sides of the front, and a band around the waist of the front after joining it at the crotch.

  • the back was just folded, while I passed an elastic in.
  • finally I joined both front and back by the sides and hemmed the base.

And that completed Désiré's 10th birthday outfit, which he was so happy to fit this night, lol, ge couldn't wait until tomorrow, moments like this make my day, and I'm so happy to be a part of this joy.
