It's a brand-new year, and that means it's time to get rocking with the Hive Rocks Project!
The groundwork for this initiative was laid in late 2021, primarily by @yangyanje and subsequently myself, but now it's time to see what we can do with it!
So, today I "planted" my first two painted "Hive Rocks!"
A "hint" for finding a Hive Rock! (48.115726, -122.752578)
Painted Hive Rock Number 1:
I decided to set this stone free, first:
Since it's decorated with a tree, I decided to find a nice tree for it.
There's this very beautiful old juniper near our downtown Maritime Center, and it actually has "hiding places" IN the tree... that are still quite visible.
So that's where I put it:
It's at about waist height, so easily visible to all but the youngest visitor.
Painted Hive Rock Number 2:
To plant rock number 2, I travelled across town to a waterfront park on the opposite side of our small peninsula.
It was getting towards the end of the day, and dusk was setting in... the photos look a bit gray, as a result. Our days are pretty short, in the winter.
This is the second stone:
Sometimes, the best way to "hide" your painted stones is in plain sight... so I decided to use the park notice board, which gets looked at quite often, and passed by a lot of people!
You can actually see that there's "something there," from a ways off:
The second stone has been "planted!" (48.142339, -122.782516)
Since there was still a little bit of daylight left, I decided to take a quick walk on the beach, as well... just to get some fresh air.
I have a lot of gratitude for the natural beauty of the place we live!
Since I found myself on a beach with lots of rocks, it seemed like an invitation to have a look around and look for the next Hive Rocks!
Ten minutes later, I'd managed to find three really nice candidates, which will be painted next time I have a little extra studio time!
Future "Hive Rocks!"
If any of this sounds interesting/intriguing to you, why not visit the Hive Rocks Community and join our recently hatched project!
Meanwhile, a quick shoutout to @yangyanje, @nathanmars, @phoenixwren, @brittandjosie and @jurich60... I think it's time to start spreading the word... and some painted Hive Rocks!
