Introduction
I just have to do another review of Lorkus again after renting a level 3 for him. This would probably be a 1 time thing because I can't constantly rent a 150 DEC per day summoner.
Lorkus is clearly one of my newest favorite summoner in the game as its ability and effiency is off the roof. Recently, a lot of players seem to notice this again and now, there's a complete fight in the rental market of who gets to rent the higher leveled lower cost of Lorkus.
Lorkus is very strong and clearly the strongest in the game at the moment for Modern Ranked Format. I still think Yodin Zaku is the strongest overall but for Modern Ranked Format, Lorkus clearly and undoubtedly took the 1st place.
The reason for this is because, not only his abilities are very useful, but the two elements he shares has very good complementing monsters, specifically, the melee ones.
+1 melee: [Stat Modifier] Positive Status] All friendly monsters has their Melee Damage increased by 1.
+1 Magic: [Stat Modifier] Positive Status] All friendly monsters has their Melee Damage increased by 1.
Lorkus's Tactics: [Summoner Tactics] During the battle, you can choose one set of abilities to be applied to a number of monsters you control.
Set 1: Life Leech & Affliction
Set 2: Trample & Fury
Trample [Damage] If a monster with Trample kills another monster, it can attack again targetting the next monster on the lineup.
Fury [Damage] This monster deals double damage to opponents with Taunt ability.
Pros
- Amazing Abilities. I think the Life Leech ability is a cheat. It is not considered healing so Healed Out rule set and Affliction does not apply. Not only that, his poison ability is the best in the game giving you consistent damage each round.
- Chaos Legion and Rebellion Combined. Lorkus is the breed between a Rebellion Summoner and a Chaos Legion Summoner, Not only he gets the Summoner Tactics allowing you to bless some of your monsters with strong abilities, he also has abilities that affect your entire team as well.
- Compatible Dual Elements. Fire and Death Splinters share a lot of good commonality. Both as a lot of good Sneak monsters and both Splinters have their own monsters with Inspire ability increasing the already high damage they can achieve.
Cons
- High mana cost.Boasting at 7 mana cost, Lorkus has one of the highest mana cost in the game. With higher mana cost summoner, will leave you with less mana to be used for your monsters than your opponents. This makes your monsters less stronger than opponent's monsters if you don't include what summoners does.
- Not allowed in a lot of rules of combat.Since Lorkus is a Legendary summoner, some rules of combats doesn't allow him to be played. Due to his diverse abilities, there are also more rules of combat that make him almost unplayable in a sense that using him is a lot less ideal than playing just lower mana cost monster.
- Very Expensive to buy or rent. This negative impact is always true on newer cards. Since Lorkus in one of the newest cards in the game, he's also one of the most expensive. This is the same with Waka Spiritblade priced around $500 half a year ago and now, he costs $148.50 each. The newer the cards, the more expensive they are.
Healed Out |
All healing effects and abilities are disabled during this battle.: Lorkus's Life Leech ability gains max health and is not considered a restoration ability which means he gains health despite being in this rule of combat.
Stampede |
When a monster with Trample ability kills an enemy, the effect of Trample resets. This effect lasts until the monster with Trample ability kills the last monster or the attack failed to kill a target: One of Lorkus's abilities is Trample ability which is needed to activate Stampede rule of combat.
Unprotected |
All armor and effects that involve armor are disabled during this battle: Monsters with Sneak ability are mostly melee monsters. Sneak strategy works most when opponents doesn't have Armor or Protect ability. This is what Unprotected rule of combat do. |
Going the Distance |
During this battle, only monsters with range damage type are allowed: Lorkus's increased damage is for both melee and magic and not ranged. While the abilities still apply for range monsters, a huge chunk of his strength would still fall off since you cannot use melee or magic damage. |
|
Armored Up |
All monsters gain +2 armor for this battle: This is the contrary of Unprotected rule of combat. The extra armor on your opponents delay the huge damage your melee Sneaks will do on their health. |
|
Weak Magic |
Monsters on the board can use their armor to block an opponent's magic damage. This has the same effect as Void Armor: Lorkus's Life Leech ability gains max health and is not considered a restoration ability which means he gains health despite being in this rule of combat. |
Tusk the Wide |
The most important factor is Tusk The Wide's Inspire ability. This is very compatible with Lorkus's increased melee damage giving you 2 extra melee damage total in that game.
Ravenhood Warden |
Ravenhood Warden is my most favorite Death Splinter monster. Not only he has Inspire ability which complements Lorkus, he also has Protect ability to increase the team's defense especially since Death and Fire Splinters lack any forms of Tank Heal or Triage.
Cursed Windeku |
Cursed Windeku with a Life Leech ability is a different beast because of his Heal ability. Since Life Leech ability increases his max health, this also increases his Heal amount. Whenever my Cursed Windeku deals 6 damage, due to multiple Inspire abilities, he gets 3 max health for that attack increasing his Heal amount by 1 every time that happens. If my Cursed Windeku attacks 5 times, he gets free +5 Health every round in above the initial 4 restore he gets from Heal ability putting him up to 9 Heal every round. Imagine that. |
I have three monsters with Inspire ability that stacks giving 3 extra melee damage to all of my monsters with an additional 1 more extra melee damage from Lorkus. This puts my Tenyii Striker at 8 melee damage, Silent Sha-Vi at 7 melee damage, Torch Vizier at 7 melee damage and Tusk The Wide at 6 melee damage. Imagine each of that attacking you per round.
Lineup
Lorkus
Best summoner in Modern Ranked Format. His increased melee and magic damage benefits majority of my team and the Life Leech Afflction combo allows my Tusk the Wide and Immolation to survive longer.
Tusk the Wide
Good defense against magic damage due to his Void ability but also serve as a support with Inspire ability.
Silent Sha-Vi
I want a Sneak monster so I have the best Death Splinter's Sneak monster in the lineup.
Tenyii Striker
I have the best Death Splinter Sneak monster so why not add the best Fire Splinter Sneak monster as well?
Torch Vizier
I recently picked her up and I think she's a good monster for having high damage for a level 2 monster. Torch Vizier gets the benefit from the 3 Inspire ability and Lorkus's increased melee damage.
Ravenhood Warden
Another monster with Inspire ability. He also has Protect ability that adds defense on all of my monsters.
Immolation
Not only he has Shield ability to protect my team against Melee Sneaks but also has not only Scavenger ability to increase his max health but also Lorkus's Life Leech ability. He also has Inspire ability that increases the other monster's melee monster's damage.
I initially had problem because my melee monsters keep missing their attacks because Reverse Speed ability is a detriment on my high speed monsters. By round 7, I have 4 monsters with 2 of them having 13 health due to Equalizer and one having 23 health while my opponent has a 1 health and 2 health respectively. I think you know what happened next.
That's it for now. I hope you enjoyed my updated review of Lorkus. I hope I were able to cover his strengths and weaknesses and give a more detailed review than the one I initially did.
Lastly, I know he's a bit expensive, but trust me, he's worth the DEC and don't even get me started on how the rental market has gone crazy for him lately! Try him now or else you might not be able to rent him at a lower rate. Anyway, I'll catch you guys later and thank you for reading this week's Summoner's Week.
