Overpriced US Items in a Local Panamanian Grocery Store!

Yesterday, I was at a local Panamanian grocery store that carries some North-American items. I was totally surprised by the prices of these "treats."

There are some things I can imagine paying $1.40 for, but a Ding Dong is not one of them! I mean, within three bites, your treat is gone and you've wasted almost $3 on two of them! Yikes!

I mean...a Twinkie. Even on a good day, these aren't the best tasting thing out there. Usually they're at least partially stale and I can't imagine it would be too difficult to make a sponge cake and fill it with some cream. You could probably make it taste better than these! At $1.40 each, it was an easy pass for me!

I sent this photo to my husband of Cheetos Mac & Cheese. I'm a sucker for Kraft Mac & Cheese, which I know is terrible for you, but the bright orange coloring of this just made me wonder what other "treasures" they've introduced in the US these days! Ewwie! I even like Cheetos, but no thanks! I didn't see the price for this box.

Reese's Peanut Butter Cups aren't popular here for some reason. I love them, but when I saw these for $1 each cup a few weeks ago, I passed them up as well! I don't know what the going price is for these guys in the US, but I can't imagine that people are paying $2 for 2 cups!

I was talking to the cashier and she was asking if the price of the Twinkies was a good price. I told her I thought it was super expensive and she agreed. I then brought up the Reese's and she said they had sold out. I told her that I like to just scoop up some peanut butter and put some chocolate chips on that. She agreed that was much cheaper and sounded good! It's currently my go-to, addictive snack!

I know the price of food is going up, but I hate to see these kind of US foods make their way here at crazy-high prices! I bet in a few months, we'll see Twinkies and Ding Dongs 2x1 on the clearance aisle!
