This was the last American soldier in Afghanistan after 20 years of war. I tried to make it simple for you to ask you a few simple questions about the war in Afghanistan, and then I'm going to try to answer it in order to see if the war in Afghanistan was useful or not.

After the 9/11 attacks, the United States accused Osama bin Laden, the leader of al-Qaeda, of carrying out terrorist attacks using hijacked civilian airplanes. then the United States asked the Taliban to hand over Osama bin Laden, but the Taliban refused, saying they would not hand over Osama bin Laden until they proved that al-Qaeda carried out the attack. The United States did not wait much and then began a military attack on Afghanistan under the cover of the "war on terror" in order to eliminate al-Qaeda and the Taliban.

Al-Qaeda is an Arabic word that means: "A base"... because there were training bases for Arab fighters in Afghanistan.
Taliban is an Arabic word that means: "students"... Because Afghan students formed a group to fight the Soviet Union in the 1980s and then they got to the government in 1996.

Has the United States attacked Afghanistan for eliminating terrorism? Unfortunately, the answer is "no" because the United States also attacked Iraq in the same period, even though Iraq has nothing to do with terrorism or al-Qaeda, and everyone knows that Iraq is a very rich country with oil.
The United States could have eliminated al-Qaeda by using aircraft or relying on intelligence without launching a ground war on Afghanistan. Most al-Qaeda members have been arrested or killed by intelligence services and in Pakistan, not Afghanistan.

So why did the United States attack Afghanistan?

Afghanistan has vast reserves of gold, platinum, silver, copper, iron, chromite, lithium, uranium, and aluminum. The country’s high-quality emeralds, rubies, sapphires, turquoise, and lapis lazuli have long charmed the gemstone market. The United States Geological Survey (USGS), through its extensive scientific research of minerals, concluded that Afghanistan may hold 60 million metric tons of copper, 2.2 billion tons of iron ore, 1.4 million tons of rare earth elements (REEs) such as lanthanum, cerium, neodymium, and veins of aluminum, gold, silver, zinc, mercury, and lithium. According to Pentagon officials, their initial analysis at one location in Ghazni province showed the potential for lithium deposits as large as those of Bolivia, which has the world’s largest known lithium reserves. The USGS estimates the Khanneshin deposits in Helmand province will yield 1.1.-1.4 million metric tons of REEs. Some reports estimate Afghanistan REE resources are among the largest on earth.

Why did the war last 20 years?

After the success of the United States of America in spreading chaos and then stealing Iraq's oil, it wanted to do the same in Afghanistan by spreading chaos throughout Afghanistan to facilitate its control and then steal its natural wealth. But there is a big difference between Iraq and Afghanistan, Iraq is an open country and is a dessert that can be easily monitored, but Afghanistan is a country full of mountains and the Afghan people have become accustomed to war since the Soviet invasion, and the massacres committed by the U.S. Army in Afghanistan made the Afghan people sympathize and help the Taliban in its war against the American occupation...

Why has the United States withdrawn now?

Afghanistan, known as the “graveyard of empires.”, that's how President Biden ended his speech because he was well aware that the United States would not benefit from anything from Afghanistan, and the best thing to do was to get out instead of continuing to suffer heavy financial losses for land whose inhabitants refuse to keep the U.S. military on their territory.

Mark Thompson who Pulitzer-prize winning National Security Analyst says : Robert McNamara, who as defense secretary from 1961 to 1968 and who was the architect of the Vietnam War, finally came clean in his 1995 book, In Retrospect: The Tragedy and Lessons of Vietnam. It took him decades to acknowledge that the war was a mistake. “My voice would have had no impact at all at that point,” he told me when the book came out, trying to explain why he kept his doubts to himself when he left the Pentagon. “My voice would have had no impact whatsoever.” That made about as much sense as his belated reason for finally coming clean. “He said he wanted to help prevent the country from making similar mistakes in the future,” I noted in Time after he died in 2009. “He fretted that just as Washington misperceived Vietnam a generation ago, it remained in danger of making a similar mistake.”
