Hello my dear Hivians ❤️🙏✨.
What is Jaljeera?
Jaljeera is a popular Indian drink known for its refreshing and tangy taste. It is typically consumed as a summer cooler or as a digestive aid. "Jal" means water, and "jeera" refers to cumin seeds, which are a key ingredient in this beverage.
To make jaljeera, various spices and herbs are combined to create a flavorful mix. The main ingredients include cumin seeds, black salt, ginger, mint leaves, coriander leaves, black pepper, and chaat masala. Sometimes, additional ingredients like tamarind pulp, lemon juice, and green chili are also added to enhance the taste. Jaljeera is not only a refreshing drink but also aids in digestion due to the presence of cumin seeds and other digestive spices. It is often served as a welcome drink at parties, weddings, and other social gatherings in India.
Here's a basic recipe for jaljeera:
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons cumin seeds
1 tablespoon black salt
1 tablespoon chaat masala
1 teaspoon black pepper powder
1 teaspoon dried mint leaves
1 teaspoon dried coriander leaves
1 teaspoon dry mango powder (amchur)
1/2 teaspoon ginger powder
4 cups chilled water
Ice cubes (optional)
Fresh mint leaves for garnish (optional)
Lemon wedges for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
Dry roast the cumin seeds in a pan over low heat until they turn slightly darker and release a nice aroma.
Once the cumin seeds are cool, grind them into a fine powder using a spice grinder or mortar and pestle.
In a large bowl, combine the ground cumin powder, black salt, chaat masala, black pepper powder, dried mint leaves, dried coriander leaves, ginger powder, and dry mango powder.
Mix the ingredients well to ensure they are evenly combined.
Add chilled water to the spice mixture and stir vigorously to dissolve the spices.
If desired, add ice cubes to the jaljeera for extra chillness.
Taste the jaljeera and adjust the seasoning according to your preference. You can add more salt, black pepper, or lemon juice if needed.
Pour the jaljeera into glasses and garnish with fresh mint leaves and lemon wedges.
Serve chilled and enjoy!
