No Butter? Use Margarine Instead to make a Biscuits

I craved again last night. I wanted to have a butter cookie but I don't have butter at all. All I have here is a margarine. So I give it a try and surprise the way it's actual taste.


What is Margarine?

Also known oleomargarine, substitute
for butter since it is more cheaper in cooking and baking. It is basically made from vegetable oil. It is non dairy and did not melted in room temperature like the lard or vegetable shortening.


The taste can be quite more different from the butter. Since butter was the made from fat milk. It is more lighter and has creamy taste compared to margarine that has a strong flavor and slight after taste.



(Makes 45 pieces using round small cookie cutter)

Ingredients:

​1 cup flour
⅓ cup cornstarch

¼ cup brown sugar
⅛ cup margarine
1 medium size egg
Drops of water if the dough is dry


Procedure:

1.Lightly beat margarine using wire whisk. It is not possible to make margarine fluffy. Just atleast whisk it about 5 minutes or until it was kinda softer and pale.

2.Add brown sugar and whisk again. This time you might notice that it is more whiskable espcially when add the egg. Combine it together until it will become fluffy.

3.Now add gradually your dry ingredients; flour and cornstarch and mix it. If it's kinda hard to manage just add some drops of water to give some moisture into the batter.

4.Divide the mixture into batches and flatten it over with parchment paper atleast an inch thick.

5.Use a circle cutter or any shapes cookie cutter you had. Trim the excess and roll it again, flat and repeat the process till done.

​> Press fork into flatten the biscuit as it creates a design too.

6.Bake in a pre heated oven. I used an electric oven toaster without any temperature meter. I just set the timer into 15 minutes with dual heat (top and bottom).

7.Once it turned slightly brown, place it in a cooling rack. Serve with coffee and enjoy.

It is not bad for a first timer. I loved that it actually really taste good. Just a few minutes, were done eating this buttery like biscuits. It can also be done on a frying pan but remember to bake it in lower heat.
