Lazy days bring us to different restaurants in our town. It was supposed to be Herb's dinner time but when we reached the restaurant, they were still not ready. So, my mother recommended we check out Awa-aw Square Resto, located on a hill a few minutes from the highway.
The restobar is owned by a friend, my older brother's classmate back in high school so we were welcomed warmly upon entering the restobar. It was my first time reaching the area. This was just a few minutes away from my high school alma mater but for some good reasons, I had never been there.
My husband complimented me that I sure was a good student back then for not even exploring that part of town even if it was just near the school. So I recalled, I think I was indeed a model student back then, I have never experienced cutting classes, not even tried going on absence even if I am sick, except only when I couldn't get up. In fact, on our graduation day, I was still in school two hours before the graduation rites because I was decorating the stage, I also made the lettering for the ceremony. I was really active in extracurricular activities in school.
So I was surprised to see a wide area at the back of the restaurant. This looks really nice, and I told the owner, the place is nice too if he converts it into a resort with an infinity pool with this view and the owner confirmed it was his plan but the budget is what he's waiting. We both laughed.
Currently, the restobar looks like a basketball court, high ceiling with big posts on the side and concrete floors. Their tables are nothing fancy, their kitchen is at the side and a separate space for private videoke space, they are still working on it. According to the owner, their karaoke space was facing the neighborhood before and since most of their customers will stay awake the entire night, they get complaints from the neighbors. Now, they moved it away from the neighborhood so there are no more complainants. Soon, they'll make many private rooms for different groups to enjoy private karaoke sessions!
Their menu is the usual Filipino restaurant with their chicken, pork, and seafood options. They have separated a section for their special options. We ordered quite a bit for that night. And we certainly regret it because it took so long for the food to be served. I guess we waited almost an hour for that, we were given free karaoke while waiting for our orders.
When the first few viands arrived, we immediately dug into them, two of the few which arrived first were the fries and nachos.
We ordered two sets of tuna panga, pancit, fried chicken, grilled pork, two sets of sisig, noodle soup.
Because the food came really late, we were all very hungry coming to the table. We were disappointed that most of the food didn't taste good. The pancit guisado for one was salty, I guess they had added a lot of soy sauce and they put in water just to lessen the saltiness but it was too much. The sisig too had a lot of fat in them, I prefer Herb's instead because its crunchy and tasty!
We had commented too that the tuna panga was too small, we had eaten at Carl's Fried and they offer tuna panga for only less than Php 150 for a set with rice and drinks. I was expecting a big serving!
I think Awa-aw have a lot to improve. We gave a few feedback to the owner and I believed he had taken note of it. I don't think we will be back soon but for sure we will visit it again in the future and see if they had improved especially their serving time.
