#Foodfriday vol 4 - Vegan Bean Stew

Day 2 of the #HiveBloPoMo is here!
If you’ve read my previous post you’ll know that I’ve decided to keep #FoodFriday in my weekly posting schedule for this challenge.
I think I could do some interesting things in the kitchen if I put my mind to it 😄

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not a foodie. I mean I enjoy good food but if I have to make it, I see it more as a necessity than as something I want to spend hours to do. That being said, I’m going to give this a fair shot! I mean I gotta eat anyway and I’m currently in lockdown situation at home so it’s not like I can go partying or something on a Friday 😌

So First Things First!

I turned my kitchen into a little studio! Yes I broke out my studio lights, got my tripod, changed lenses just to get ready. This way I can make it a bit more interesting for myself and practice my food photography! WIN-WIN-WIN!

Next was deciding on what to make… Today of all days in Good Friday.
I’m not religious by any means but I’ve always grown up not eating any meat on this day.
Don’t ask me the exact Christian reason to do this, all I know it became sort of a tradition when I grew up. You see in Suriname, you would me a famous Fish dish called Her’ Heri and you’d eat that with friends and family. BUT since I’m here and I don’t happen to have any fish in the house I decided to go the vegan route! I decided to make a vegan version of ‘Bruine Bonen’ which is basically uuhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm a vegan bean stew??? Yeah let’s go with that!
So instead of meat I went with Tofu.

Now feast your eyes on my creation!!!!
No, but seriously, I unraveled and ironed white bedlinen for this!!! (I have no white table cloth). So take a look at my shots 😃

So What's in it?

Ingredients:

  1. Onion
  2. Garlic
  3. Tofu
  4. Bruine bonen (beans)

Spices

  1. Salt
  2. Black Pepper
  3. “Geslagen peper” which is a dried Madam Jeanette pepper (from Suriname)
  4. Adobo all purpose seasoning
  5. Nutmeg
  6. Bay Leaf
  7. Added some Maggi and Ketchup later on…

The Process

Bean looking sexy out here 🤣

Final results!

It was good! It was not my best work and I might have been focused on taking the best shots more than the food 😆. It was very spicy (Surinamese peppers) and I think it needed a bit more salt or Maggi.
All in all I’m gonna give it a 6 out of 10 .

Tips are always welcome, I know there a lot of foodies and food photographers out there!
Thanks for reading,

P.s.
This is part of the #HiveBloPoMo and I've settled on a schedule (for now):

Monday :#MotivationMonday

Tuesday: #TuesdayThoughts
Wednesday is open
Thursday: #TravelThursday (which kinda goes hand in hand with #throwbackthursday cause traveling is not that simple now). I've been lucky enough to travel a lot so I'll be highlighting a place I've visited every Thursday.
Friday: #FoodFriday
Saturday is open
Sunday: #KeepExploring!
I'm excited for this one cause I'll be exploring Curacao and posting about some of the spots I've been too..

I love photography so I'll make sure to apply it to the topics where I can.
