I love exploring new places to find great food, as it gives me more options to enjoy. Even though many spots offer similar dishes, I’m always on the lookout for those that serve fresh, delicious, and affordable meals. One standout gem I discovered a few months ago is The Original Taste.
At first glance, it might seem like just another Cai Fan stall, but it’s far more impressive. Not only does it offer a wide range of meat and vegetable dishes, but it also boasts an extensive selection of seafood items. In fact, it seems to offer more seafood than other Cai Fan stalls! What’s truly remarkable is that the entire operation is run by just one person—he cooks, serves, and handles payments all on his own. This guy is a true hustler, and his dedication makes every visit an exceptional experience.
For this lunch, I enjoyed a nice meal of deep-fried mackarel and sautéed cabbage.
Both of these dishes are cooked using simple methods but the freshness of the ingredients made it more pleasing to the taste buds.
The fish was cooked perfectly! It’s tender and flaky. I can taste the flavor of the ocean. The blend between the sautéed cabbage and the fish fits well to my palette.
Talking about the food stall, another observation that I had is although there are dishes that are regular on the menu, there are also dishes that will depend on what is available in the market.
I remember, a few months ago, I was able to order a nice baby squid. I’m quite surprised by the freshness of the squid. It was obviously imported from neighboring countries and yet the quality of the preservation of the seafood is outstanding. Hence, I always go to this stall whenever I want to eat fresh seafood.
