Omelets come in many variations from the ingredients to the texture and use of the toppings. Each region has its version of the omelet.
In Indonesia, there is a dish that we call "MARTABAK TELUR". "TELUR" means egg. While the word "MARTABAK" refers to a type of flatbread. Because it has the word egg, of course, this dish uses eggs. And it reminds me of omelets.
Basically, for Indonesians, "MARTABAK TELUR" is like an omelet that has a flat and round shape.
Why Is It Shaped Like an Egg Roll?
The original "MARTABAK TELUR" is like a flat omelet. But then I thought about rolling up this egg dish to make a food photo show something new.
So basically this dish is the Indonesian version of the omelet. Usually, we serve it with pickled cucumber and onions.
Omelets are generally served for breakfast, but we serve "MARTABAK TELUR" at night.
Curry Sauce
I have a stock of curry sauce that goes well with "MARTABAK TELUR".
So I served it on the same plate "MARTABAK TELUR" with curry sauce.
I don't pour curry sauce on "MARTABAK TELUR" directly. But I put the sauce first on the plate, then added the "MARTABAK TELUR" that I had rolled up earlier.
What do you think about the Indonesian omelet that I serve rolled up? Have you ever seen a dish like this in your area?
