Hey guys.
So recently, I went to a buffet place in Jamuna Future Park. It’s name is Garlic n Ginger. It’s relatively famous and it’s said to host NSU teachers as well, didn’t know if that bit was right or not.
Fixing The Date
So I planned to go here with a friend of mine a week before attending it. Now, we were supposed to go the last Wednesday but the seat was not in an ideal spot so I cancelled it. Then I heard that all the seats were booked till Sunday. So I reserved 2 seats for Sunday.
The Bill
Luckily for me, I had someone with a Standard Chartered card and so I got a good 10% discount on the initial price. Still came down to a Tk1375 which is roughly $15.
The Welcome
Got into the place about an hour before Iftar time as I was a bit panic stricken about the location. Found it within 4 minutes🤦✌️. Entered the place and told the name of the reservation.
We were in the right hand corner of the restaurant, a bit further away from where the food was kept. The first thing that I see on the table was not the decor but this… my name… that went from Sharar to Sarowar. I was suffering internally seeing how they messed it up.
A short while after we sat and were comfy, the waiters brought out the initial platter of food to break out fast. Beautifully placed and well made but the problem I saw was this: half the dish were filled with bread and potato. A very nice deterrent for anyone to fill their bellies with low tier items. I however don’t like to waste food and so finished it all with the intention of clearing the food aisle.
Brought the proteins, a palate full of different kinds of chicken and chic peas. By the time I had finished the meal my friend had gobbled up his tang that they had served and a bottle of water🤷♂️. Classic noob. Water should be had in 2-3 sips max before moving to the next dish.
I know what I said about bread dishes but when I went to bring in more food I saw that these 3 bread rolled dishes were running out so I grabbed them quickly. Brought a white pasta which was a bit foolish on my end considering it was a heavy food but it tasted goooood. Beside the pasta was a fish fry which was also amazing. The rest was more different styles of chicken: Thai, fried shrimps etcetera.
2 more times I brought in the same chicken dishes and so I didn’t bother taking their pics. This was when my friend had spotted another friend who was present with her family. A pure coincidence. She came up to us and sat for a good little chat. Then she went back to where her family was sitting.
Time For Dessert
Brought in some nice and smol cakes. The velvet coloured cake was also amazing. The jello was a personal favourite and was good. I couldn’t resist the white pasta as it was just refilled and hot.
This was when I saw that a faculty(proctor) of mine was also present here🤷♂️. The thing about this place was true after all! I went up to him and gave greetings and came right back as he was with his mates and what it looked like a female colleague of his.
By the time I finished it the dessert section had to be refilled. I asked if they would refill it but the waiter told that he would have to check the kitchen as the stock was low. Then out of the blue he arrived with a good chunk of strawberry flavoured gelatine and smol cakes.
And yeah, I know I can eat twice for my size XD. I have dined in a lot of buffet to know the way to eat more that’s worth more the hard way.
The Second Place
How I Went There
I came here not too long ago with 2 of my great friends. We came here a CNG. We looked for the CNG for about 30 minutes before finally finding one. We set out at 10:30pm ish and got one at 1pm fearing the traffic. Surprisingly it took us about 40 minutes to reach. We were wayy early and so we roamed the market of Agora until it reached 2:40pm. By then we had paid our bills and were ready to devour the delicacies.
Judging A Book By It’s Cover
We didn’t reserve any seat as they told us that there was gone be enough seats for all of us. We obliged and bought ourselves 3 buffet for a price of Tk700 which is around $8 for lunch, the lunch hours started from 1pm. They had over 100+ items which made me question if they were any good. They had crab, sushi, and other continental dishes which were not present at Garlic n Ginger.
The interior was amazing, understatement. It was then I wondered as to why was this place cheap?
Our seat was only a bit further away from where the food was kept.
The place was perfect for couples. The natural vibe, the decor, and lighting. Perfect for a date. Have to find a gril first XD. And not I do mean “gril”.
The other side of the time place. There were 2 different side of the place. One for people with buffet and the other for people who dined normally.
Started with the main dish, no rice and only proteins and chicken❤️ with other continental and the local favourite beef. Also a good chicken grill. I didn’t want to take the spring roll but almost all of the people present there took it and so for the sake of tasting it I obtained one. Bad decision, the roll is good but bad for eating as it diminishes the urge to eat more.
Meal time.
A great thing about this place, we got unlimited drinks. There was coke, Fanta, and dew. I loved this but. Something that Garlic n Ginger didn’t have! Also, this helped me digest a bit of food for which I went for more rounds of fetching.
Sushi, crab, butter chicken, all of them were side by side. I loved each one, and their taste was too good to be true. Literally worth and maybe more than the price I had paid, an outstanding bargain!! Asians love a good bargain and I can see why. I literally went in and brought the same chicken and beef so many times that my friends told me to stop eating XD. I compensated my food’s price for certain here.
As for the dessert section, it also has many thing but I took the personal favourite Jello which was strawberry flavoured, smol cakes and the pink thing that I was curious about it’s taste. It was okay in a sense, not bad and not good. The orange jello wasn’t bad and was good. I don’t like mangoes that much but I like this one. I took the same desserts twice as well. I’m sure they had a loss for my, well for what I paid on my end. I literally saw the people marching in and out of the place within 30 minutes of eating. A great profit for the restaurant owner I tell you!
Conclusion
This marked the end of my buffet experience. In all honestly, I must say that the Aristocrat Lounge was the better option given their options for the price whereas Garlic n Ginger was good as it served rare dishes that I personally loved but with a little more price. Cost wise Aristocrat lounge takes the win but quality wise I have to give it to Garlic n Ginger.
