Les cuento, La Universidad de Oriente, tiene más de seis décadas de historia académica del país, siendo la pionera en el oriente del venezolano, con 5 núcleos, ubicados en los estados Anzoátegui, Bolívar, Monagas, Nueva Esparta y Sucre, su sede principal, ha contribuido significativamente en la formación profesional de los jóvenes que han crecido bañados por esta tierra de sol.

The Universidad de Oriente has more than six decades of academic history in the country, being the pioneer in the east of Venezuela, with 5 centers, located in the states of Anzoátegui, Bolívar, Monagas, Nueva Esparta and Sucre, its main campus, has contributed significantly in the professional training of young people who have grown up bathed by this land of sunshine.
La Universidad de Oriente, creada en noviembre de 1958, inicia funciones por decreto oficial de la Junta de Gobierno instalada luego del derrocamiento de la dictadura de Marcos Pérez Jiménez (1948-1958), ha sido la principal institución universitaria autónoma dedicada a la docencia, investigación y desarrollo socioeconómico de la región.
La sede principal de la UDO y el Rectorado se encuentran en la ciudad de Cumaná, más específicamente, su campus universitario, se encuentra en la avenida universidad, en particular, el Núcleo de Sucre se compone de 4 Grandes Escuelas: Ciencias, Humanidades y Educación, Ciencias Sociales, Administración y Contaduría, además cuenta con el Instituto Oceanográfico de Venezuela, fundado enn1963, el cual es un referente mundial en el estudio de las ciencias marinas.
The Universidad de Oriente, created in November 1958, began operating by official decree of the Government Board installed after the overthrow of the dictatorship of Marcos Pérez Jiménez (1948-1958), and has been the main autonomous university institution dedicated to teaching, research and socioeconomic development of the region.

Lamentablemente, en los últimos 10 años las instalaciones de la UDO en todos sus núcleos fueron duramente vandalizadas y su planta física se encuentra en un preocupante estado de destrucción, lo cual ha mermado dramáticamente su matrícula y con ello su capacidad para dar respuesta a las demandas formativas del país.
Sin embargo, pese a esa dramatica realidad y a los efectos adversos que la pandemia ocasionó en su funcionamiento, el espíritu y la vocación de servicio de su personal ha mantenido vivo el compromiso con los jovenes estudiantes que confían en la calidad y excelencia académica de la Casa más Alta del Oriente Venezolano, es por ello que los entes gubernamentales y autoridades universitarias han unido esfuerzos para rescatar sus espacios y continuar ofreciendo formación de calidad.
Unfortunately, in the last 10 years the facilities of the UDO in all its centers were severely vandalized and its physical plant is in a worrying state of destruction, which has dramatically reduced its enrollment and thus its ability to respond to the educational demands of the country.
However, in spite of this dramatic reality and the adverse effects that the pandemic caused in its operation, the spirit and vocation of service of its personnel has kept alive the commitment with the young students who trust in the quality and academic excellence of the highest House of the Venezuelan East, that is why the governmental entities and university authorities have joined efforts to rescue its spaces and continue offering quality training.
Recientemente, regresamos con nostalgia y profunda esperanza en el futuro a nuestras instalaciones en cerro colorado, 20 petroaulas fueron rehabilitadas a fin de albergar, principalmente, a los 700 jóvenes de nuevo ingreso del segundo semestre 2023 en sus distintas carreras y a un porcentaje significativo de estudiantes regulares, ello nos llena de felicidad pues, después de casi 3 años sin poder pisar nuestro campus, ver la alegría de los nuevos estudiantes es inspirador para seguir trabajando en pro de enaltecer el slogan esta alma mater, "Del pueblo venimos y hacia el pueblo vamos"
Aun falta mucho por hacer, 20 nuevas aulas representan menos del 5% de la capacidad operativa que hasta el año 2019 el núcleo de Sucre poseía, pero son un gran estímulo para avivar el ánimo y trabajar con mayor ahínco y sentido de pertenecer para reconstruir una visión otra de hacer docencia, investigación y extensión.
Recently, we returned with nostalgia and deep hope for the future to our facilities in Cerro Colorado, 20 petroclassrooms were rehabilitated in order to house, mainly, the 700 new students of the second semester 2023 in their different careers and a significant percentage of regular students, this fills us with happiness because, after almost 3 years without being able to set foot on our campus, seeing the joy of the new students is inspiring to continue working towards the slogan of this alma mater, "From the people we come and to the people we go".
There is still much to do, 20 new classrooms represent less than 5% of the operational capacity that the Sucre campus had until 2019, but they are a great stimulus to revive the spirit and work harder and sense of belonging to rebuild a different vision of teaching, research and extension.
