Hola, buenos días a todos los amantes de las leyendas y tradiciones de nuestros pueblos. Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes una leyenda muy popular de la región llanera venezolana comprendida entre los estados Guárico y Anzoátegui, que por muchos años, desde que era niña, he escuchado, pero hasta ahora me dediqué a conocer más sobre ésta. Se trata de la historia de Francisca Duarte, mejor conocida en el llano como Pancha Duarte, el ánima del Taguapire o Mamá Pancha.
Desde siempre llegué a pensar que el nombre Taguapire hacía referencia a un lugar del llano o tenía alguna conexión con el pueblo de Mapire, que fue donde vivió y murió Mamá Pancha. Pero estaba totalmente equivocada, el nombre de Taguapire estaba relacionado con un árbol de ese nombre, que crece en los llanos guariqueños: “El taguapire es un árbol frondoso no muy alto que abunda en la parte nororiental de los llanos guariqueños. La historia de Francisca Duarte es muy particular, porque era una mujer con muchas cualidades y que sabía desempeñar muy bien cualquier actividad típica del llano. Llegó un día buscando trabajo en una hacienda en Santa María de Ipire, estado Guárico, y allí permaneció muchos años hasta que murió de paludismo, según rezan los relatos.
Ella sabía mucho de curaciones naturales, era comadrona, y se encargaba de las labores de aquella hacienda ganadera a la perfección, donde gozaba de la confianza de sus dueños. Cuando Francisca murió, cuentan que quisieron llevar su cuerpo envuelto en una hamaca para enterrarlo del otro lado del río, pero había crecido tanto con las lluvias que fue imposible atravesarlo, por lo que esperaron que bajara un poco y aguardaron con el cadáver debajo de un árbol de Taguapire.
La mañana siguiente, ya el río estaba en mejores condiciones para cruzarlo, pero cuando intentaron levantar el cuerpo de la mujer, estaba tan pesado que no pudieron moverlo. De esa manera decidieron enterrarla en el mismo sitio donde estaba, debajo del Taguapire, y de allí proviene su nombre.
El árbol de Taguapire aún existe y a su lado construyeron una capilla que podemos ver cuando viajamos por la carretera nacional de Los Llanos, exactamente en el municipio Santa María de Ipire, estado Guárico.
Mamá Pancha se convirtió en la santa de los llaneros, existen muchas historias y testimonios de sus milagros sobre todo en las cosechas, y la sanación de animales. Casi todos los pueblos llaneros de Guárico y Anzoátegui tienen una capilla en honor a Pancha Duarte, y las fotos que les muestro son de la capilla que está en mi ciudad natal, El Tigre, ubicada en la Av. Intercomunal.

She arrived one day looking for a job in a hacienda in Santa María de Ipire, Guárico state, and stayed there for many years until she died of malaria, according to the stories.
She knew a lot about natural cures, she was a midwife, and she was in charge of the work of that cattle ranch to perfection, where she enjoyed the confidence of its owners. When Francisca died, they say that they wanted to take her body wrapped in a hammock to bury it on the other side of the river, but it had grown so much with the rains that it was impossible to cross it, so they waited for it to go down a little and waited with the corpse under a tree in Taguapire.
The next morning, the river was in better conditions to cross it, but when they tried to lift the woman's body, it was so heavy that they could not move it. So they decided to bury her in the same place where she was, under the Taguapire tree, and that is where its name comes from.
The Taguapire tree still exists and next to it they built a chapel that we can see when we travel along the national highway of Los Llanos, exactly in the municipality of Santa María de Ipire, Guárico state.
Mamá Pancha became the saint of the llaneros, there are many stories and testimonies of her miracles especially in the crops, and the healing of animals. Almost all the llanero towns of Guárico and Anzoátegui have a chapel in honor of Pancha Duarte, and the photos I show you are of the chapel in my hometown, El Tigre, located on Intercomunal Avenue.
