Farming: Mango Trees.

Good day, Hiveians. I trust your week has been productive. It’s another time to talk about nature, especially its representatives on my farm.

Currently in Nigeria, the mango season has gone, but surprisingly, I found the fruit below on one of the trees on the farm. There are a total of two mango trees on my farm, and they are really productive.

During their seasons, both trees yielded fruits bountifully, not just for humans but for animals. I remember my neighbors always coming over to pack mangoes in buckets. Aside from the giving aspect, the fruits would have been wasted if they hadn’t come around to pack them.

I remember fruit bats always coming around to take a bite, and birds too. One funny thing is how they don’t go around spoiling every single fruit; they seem to know their boundaries.

Mango fruits encourage flies, but it is important to master controlling this as flies can be carriers of several diseases that can be harmful to humans. Most times, I don’t allow people to eat mango anywhere around the farm.

The rule is simple: you can pluck as many as you can carry, but don’t peel them. Take them home, and you can handle the consumption and waste disposal personally.

This really helped, although the fruits consumed by bats, birds, and other animals constituted some dirtiness, but this could have been worse. I controlled the waste by getting a cleaner who packed it on a weekly basis.

It is also good to take care of the tree, and what I do is cut off some branches. There was a time I paid a horticulturist to spray the trees and the whole farm with insecticides to control pests and diseases that can be deadly to the trees.

The effectiveness of the spraying really showed in the quality of fruits the trees yielded. There was rarely a case where we had bad fruits or those affected by parasites or insects.

Looking at the last bountiful harvest we had, I think mango can be a source of income on a large scale, especially if one is supplying companies making juice and general consumers.

Mango is rich in several classes of vitamins and is also rich in antioxidants. Some people even classify it as the king of fruits in comparison to others.

Mango leaves are also very useful and are known for their support in skin health, the treatment of stomach ulcers, and the treatment of hair problems, among others.

As I’ve always said, nature is too loaded with secrets beyond our imagination, and we cannot help but keep tapping into the limitless resources that are evidently inexhaustible.
