Projects for Baby Lilly

Portable cribs and bassinets usually come with a single sheet. Considering how often baby things need to be washed, I took fabrics my daughter and I had collected and started making fitted sheets.

For a rectangular mattress, cut a rectangle with a length equal to the mattress length plus 2 times the mattress thickness plus 2 inches. The width of the rectangle is mattress width plus 2 times thickness plus 2 inches.

I then do darts at the corners to make them boxy (dart depth is mattress thickness plus an inch.) I hem all around the edges, then use zigzag stitch to apply clear swimsuit elastic to the corners.

A lot of sheets in stores have elastic around the entire sheet. I hate that because it makes the sheets impossible to neatly fold. Doing just the corners is the old way and the way I prefer.

I also began knitting a sweater for fall. Since Lilly was almost 10 pounds at birth, I am making the sweater based on 12 month size to fit her through the winter.

As usual, I knit a sleeve first to be sure I am getting the right gauge (stitches per inch) and am happy with the feel of the fabric I'm creating. So far, so good.
