The Russian invasion of Ukraine in February has been seen as the worst humanitarian crisis in the past 3 decades. This is because of the war was targeted at innocent Ukraine citizens.
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine has created the largest humanitarian crisis Europe has seen in decades. With hundreds of thousands of people fleeing from the escalating conflict, neighboring countries and international organizations are mobilizing to condemn Russia’s war and provide relief for the growing number of refugees.Source
Citizens of Ukraine are no longer at ease in their own country, many have fled into neighboring countries and have become refugees in another man's land.
Ukraine citizens are now experiencing severe hunger in some internally displaced person's camps across Europe.
Currently, according to the UN Refugee Agency, there are about 10 million citizens have been displaced by the war and about 4 million citizens have fled the country. The United Nations is preparing for about seven million refugees from Ukraine.
Due to the devastating effects of the Russian invasion, many have likened it to the Balkan Wars of the 1990s, but this particular war is seen as the largest since then.
Looking at the number of dead and injured people in Ukraine. The official records have given that only 902 civilians have died and 1,459 have been injured. This could record could only be a mirage because everyone can tell that over a million people have been killed during the Russian offensive attack on Ukraine.
From a humanitarian standpoint, many Ukrainians suffered from lack of electricity, water and supplies due to the fact that the Russian attack was targeted towards highly populated area, so citizens have to flee for their lives.
Shortage of good drinking water and electricity is actually an abuse of the citizens human rights according to International Humanitarian Laws. Attacking innocent citizens is also a violation of humanitarian laws.
Experts also worry about Russia’s increasing reliance on artillery, cluster munitions, rockets, and other weapons that can devastate civilian areas, including in the major cities of Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Kyiv, and Mariupol. They say this escalation will likely lead to greater civilian casualties and infrastructure damage.Source
The collateral damages caused by the Russian reliance on heavy munitions has caused civilian casualties and infrastructural damage that'll take billion of dollars to fix. These monies that would've been used for helping the country stabilize, will now be used to fix infrastructures back to their pre-war state.
It's been very long since the entire world came to a standstill, but the Russian invasion of Ukraine has made the entire world to holt for a while.
When we talk about humanitarian crisis the Russian invasion of Ukraine is actually an example of a war that is against every humanitarian laws and to me the Russian President Vladimir Putin and his war Generals should be charged for genocide and other war crimes.
A humanitarian panel should be set up to trial the Russian leader and his advisers for war crimes, while the United Nations and the European Union should strategize on how to settle the refugees from Ukraine that are stranded all over Europe and a collaborative effort should be made towards rebuilding Ukraine.
