Hello dear friends of Home Solutions, I am happy to join this month's initiative and share with you, some things I would like to change in my home. I take the opportunity to invite my friends @emily22, @leidimarc, @natica83.
Some of you know that one of my dreams is to build my own little house, totally to my taste and of course to the taste of my husband and my son, where we are more comfortable and with much more space to continue strengthening our little family. While this is happening, we live in my husband's family's house, and I am very grateful and happy to live here.
The house is small, but it is very comfortable and cozy. I like it very much, but one of the things, which the whole family would like to change about it, is the roof. Replacing the roof covering has become a necessity, mainly because the material it is made of is asbestos.
Some time ago I gave my opinion, based on my experience about this construction material, this material was banned several years ago by the world health organization, because it releases small particles that can cause damage to our body, however, in several countries, including Venezuela, there are still houses with asbestos roof coverings, because it is no secret that the roof is one of the most expensive parts in the construction of a house and replacing them is not an easy task.
Besides, it already presents some leakage problems that, as time goes by, are more difficult to fix. But, how could we carry out the replacement of this roof?
The first thing we have proposed and has been our project for more than a decade is the construction of a mezzanine slab and build a second floor, with this, we would solve two problems in one, we would no longer have this type of roof over us and we would be able to build a small apartment. However, my engineering instinct tells me that this will not be as easy as it seems, since I consider that the structure of the house, perhaps, is not designed to support those loads, so I think that it will probably be necessary to reinforce the structural part in some way, perhaps, building new columns parallel to the existing ones, maybe some of you can give me some suggestions.
On the other hand, we have the dismantling and removal of this material.
First of all, it is a very heavy, brittle and polluting material, therefore, we must create a safety protocol and plan well, where this material will be moved to and what will be done with it.
Another option, a little simpler, is to replace this material with a light roof, or with tongue and groove and creole tile, which would be perfect and would combine with the environment.This is a project that we should carry out as soon as possible, but it requires a considerable investment, which we do not have at the moment.We cross our fingers, so that the economic situation improves and we can make this dream a reality.

Algunos saben que uno de mis sueños es construir mi propia casita, totalmente a mi gusto y por supuesto al gusto de mi esposo y mi hijo, donde estemos más cómodos y con mucho más espacio para seguir fortaleciendo nuestra pequeña familia. Mientras esto sucede, vivimos en casa de la familia de mi esposo, y estoy muy agradecida y feliz de vivir aquí.
La casa es pequeña, pero es muy cómoda y confortable. Me gusta mucho, pero una de las cosas, que toda la familia quisiera cambiar de ella, es el techo. Sustituir la cubierta de este techo, se ha convertido en una necesidad, principalmente, porque el material del que está formado, es asbesto.
Hace un tiempo di mi opinión, basada en mi experiencia acerca de este material de construcción, este material fue prohibido hace varios años por la organización mundial de la salud, porque desprende pequeñas partículas que pueden ocasionar daños en nuestro organismo, sin embargo, en varios países, incluyendo Venezuela, siguen existiendo casas con cubiertas de techo de asbestos, porque para nadie es un secreto que el techo es una de las partes más costosas en la construcción de una vivienda y sustituirlas no es tarea fácil.
Además, ya presenta algunos problemas de filtración que, con el paso del tiempo, son más difíciles de subsanar. ¿Pero, cómo podríamos realizar la sustitución de este techo?
Lo primero que hemos planteado y ha sido nuestro proyecto desde hace más de una década es la construcción de una losa de entrepiso y construir una segunda planta, con esto, solucionaríamos dos problemas en uno, ya no tendríamos este tipo de techo sobre nosotros y lograríamos construir un pequeño apartamento. Sin embargo, mi instinto de ingeniero me dice, que esto no será tan fácil como parece, ya que considero que la estructura de la casa, tal vez, no esté diseñada para soportar, esas cargas, así que pienso, que seguramente sea necesario reforzar de alguna manera la parte estructural, tal vez, construyendo nuevas columnas paralelas a las existentes, tal vez alguno de ustedes puedan dejarme algunas sugerencias.
Por otro lado, tenemos el desmontaje y remoción de este material. En primer lugar, es un material muy pesado, quebradizo y contaminante, por lo tanto, debemos crear un protocolo de seguridad y planear bien, a dónde se va a trasladar este material y qué se hará con él.
Otra opción, un poco más sencilla, es sustituir este material por un techo liviano, o por machihembrado y teja criolla, la cual quedaría perfecto y combinaría con el entorno.
Este es un proyecto, que debemos realizar lo más pronto posible, pero que requiere una inversión considerable, que por los momentos no contamos. Cruzamos los dedos, para que la situación económica mejore y hacer de este sueño una realidad.
