King Saul; in 1 samuel 13:12b no doubt, had a resistance within, when he sought to offer a burnt offering, which was not his portion to offer, being a king and not a priest. He had a good reason; because, the appointment given by Samuel for the offering of the sacrifice had elapsed and Samuel whose duty it was, to offer the sacrifice was nowhere to be found and his warring army was fast depleting at the sight of the cruel some philistines who were fast approaching. As obvious as his reason was; there was something within him that battered against his intention to disobey a divinely ordained statute. He had to force himself against the resistance within, to go against the order God had laid down and it didn’t augur well for him.
One thing we see very clearly from this text is that a believer is not easily overcome. No matter how you look at it; it takes an added effort for a true believer to go against the allowances of God’s Word for his or her life. Saul had to force himself to sin; because, his “inner man” wouldn’t just invade the human body and prevail. In the physical; diseases don’t just invade the human body and prevail. There are antibodies in place in the human system meant to wade off any form of invasion against the human body. These antibodies put forth a form of resistance against these strange organisms that seek to invade the body. Diseases manifest when for one reason or the other, these antibodies are overcome.
Spiritually; there is a divine mechanism in place in the life of a child of God that rises within against any form of sinful invasion. The devil does not easily have his way in the life of a believer. “As many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God” John 1:12. The power to become is the power that works within to resist evil. When sin seeks to invade your being, there is a spiritual alert and everything in you rises in opposition. It will take you rising with one excuse or the other against this inner resistance, before you become a prey to that sinful invasion. It takes you overcoming the resistance divinely put in place in your life, before you can overcome sin.
