Here is one of our smallest birds and he is the cheekiest little bird that you will ever see.
This post is an entry into the "Show Me A Photo" contest hosted by the wonderful @nelinoeva of Feather Friends fame.
The little bird is a "Pin-tailed Whydah" (Vidua macroura) and he is only 12 centimeters in size, apart from his long tail.
He is also known as the "King of sixes" because they normally have 6 or more wives.
We call him "Sixy" and his wives are the laziest birds on the planet. They don't build nests, and lay their eggs in the nests of other birds.
But of course it is his tail and his black and white suit that attract the ladies.
Scouting here for anything that enters his territory, so that he can dive bomb it. A very quarrelsome fella.
And then the sun came out of hiding behind the clouds!
"Sixy" sees his own reflection in glass as the enemy and he attacks it fiercely.
He likes to fly between cars parked in his territory, then lands on them to fight with himself in the mirrors.
So, finally, here is the king of the mirrors 🤣
When the breeding season is over, sixy loses his black and white dress suit and he loses the long tail. He then turns into a dull grey and he looks exactly the same as the small females. Until the next breeding season of course.
