Feathered Saturday

Hello there,

Would you like to join me and walk with me? Would you like to see the birds I spot today? Then let's go.

The morning was pretty warm. What am I talking? It is practically summer. The heat wave brought later storm, but earlier it was sunny with fluffy clouds here and there and some strong wind.

First birds to greet were the jackdows, just round our block they were gathering dirt. A lot. My first thought was that probably they need for the nest, but I am not quite sure. But then for what other reason? They live in crevices of buildings, trees, the nests they build are usually of sticks. Perhaps they need something to cement them.

Let's go now to the green woodpecker's realm. I have shown many photos of the greenies, but now I know where they live. The tree has several holes and there are always one or two of the woodpeckers. I hope to be able to see the new generation later on. Would be great to photograph any of them poking out of the hole.

Keep on going further down the park and off to the little woods, where the starlings were singing. But unlike other days, there were no blackbirds, thrushes and finches. Except for the hawfinch, who was rather high. Of course the great tits were there and their songs could be heard from a distance, but something else caught my attention - a stork gliding gracefully very close and letting me make many pics.

And a photobomb with the seagull.

With wings wide spread, isn't it a beauty?

I was almost certain a flock will follow, but no, no matter how much I was looking up.

Something else was in the sky, the couple of kestrels. I could not get them both together, but here is what I got.

The kestrels after making a big circle above us headed to the block where they live and we were after them. When we reached the block, the birds were resting, each on a different corner.

Here is the male.

And the female.

Just to get an idea where their home is - top floor with panoramic view - this is the block of flats where the kestrel family lives for more than 15 years.

We were prepared for long walk and to climb the hill nearby. There is a better chance to see the flocks from the top of the hill. But again we were not lucky. It was a bit quiet there. And then we heard it, a bird was singing loud, but nothing like that I have heard before. Luckily I could appoach without scaring it and the bird kept on singing and swinging, as the wind was pretty strong on the top. It was worth climbing even to see it, as it happened to be a new bird for me - corn bunting! Bloody twigs were in front, but I have a new bird, that's what it matters.

When it was about time to return we met a heard of goats and here is a bonus picture.

And that's it, my Saturday morning walk. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

Till the next time!
