Dash may be a Cryptocurrency, but she's also our rascal of a bird. In truth, this post has been tough to write. It's time I formerly introduce her to Feathered Friends and the greater HIVE Community.
For those just jumping in, Dash joined our household only a couple weeks after the loss of our Sun Conure, Aurora.
The stories of how we adopted both birds are quite similar, though their personalities couldn't be more different. Both birds came from families with an autistic child who was having trouble dealing with their noises.
Too Fast A Transition
When my wife told our youngest (and also autistic) son Logan that we were getting a new bird, his response was, "That's Rude!"
No doubt, I wasn't the only one still shook up over the absence of our first Conure. It's still tough to believe she flew off and we were unable to get her back. And I still do miss Aurora for she and I developed an immediate bond.
Dash Is A Bird Of A Different Feather
As species go, Dash and Aurora are definitely birds of the same feather. A comparison of personality and attitude shows a big divergence in character traits.
Aurora had some different soft sounds she made when happy, as well as her loud series of high pitched squawks. Dash has a thousand or more sounds at her disposal or so it seems.
One thing I have to keep in mind is that Dash is only a year and a half old. She's still a child really. Aurora came to us at over 6 years old and was more mature.
Aurora loved to cuddle and so does Dash, but Dash is very particular. If I touch her on top of or near her head, she nips me. Dash likes being petted under and above the place where her tail feathers begin.
She'll butt right up to our heads when we're sitting on the couch to let us know it's petting time. Aurora always wanted only my attention and didn't care where I pet her at all. Dash enjoys attention from all members of the our family.
Adventurous & Troublesome
Dash is truly a little troublemaker. Her new thing lately is to land on the floor and attack our sandaled feet. She goes straight after those toes!
The tassels on the ends of the drawstring to my hooded sweatshirt are torn apart. Next, Dash found the coat rack and shoe rack we have under our stairway.
We're scrambling to save any shoelaces or coats with zippers that are important to us. Dash also needs to learn to poop in her cage where the litter is. Aurora knew to go to her cage. We need to teach Dash, somehow, to have a bit of bladder control.
"Hello!" & Gorgeous Cascading Tail Feathers
You've already had a good view of all the vibrant colors that compliment Dash. Pineapple Conures are a cross between Greencheek and Cinnamon Conures. The names sure match her beautiful display of coloring.
Besides all the different sounds Dash makes, she also says "Hello!" She starts to sound like a squeaky toy when she says it too fast.
One thing that's physically different about Dash compared to Aurora are her tail feathers. Dash is able to spread out her tail like a fan in the same way a Peacock does.
You can see the red stand out against the greater green of her frame when she does this. It's only during moments of big excitement that she shows off, so I helped out a bit for the picture.
I hope you enjoyed meeting Dash. She's starting to fit in with us and become more comfortable day by day.
Thanks for reading/viewing and as always...
